Hi Stu,

Your ship looks amazing, very neatly finished and tidy. I must admit I am a bit freaked out with the two layering for the planking. And the cutting of the portholes look like a difficult job. What issue are you on? I am only on issue 9 so this a major inspiration for me.

Chantel

Hi Chantel
Thanks for looking in and i appreciate your comments, im hovering around issues 37-38-39 at the moment. This is my first attempt at a model like this and this forum is the best tool you could have. everyone is so helpful and you only have to ask and there is an answer immediately. There is some great info in the build diaries. I found the secret with the port holes is dont try to do too much in one go, take your time. The sapele (second planking) is a nightmare when cutting around the portholes, its extremely brittle.
Good luck with your build and post some pictures when you get time so we can all see your progress.

A little more progress.
Now finished off the sapele level and started on the black boxwood. Much nicer to work with, and certainly looks a nice contrast between the two colours. Its starting to look like the ship she is now.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin Hopefully ill finish the box wood this week and then do some studying before starting the lower planks. I think i maybe wasting a few maple planks trying to get the drop planks right, Crying Crying Crying

Bit more progress on the second planking. The black box wood is now all fitted, ive still got some of the gun ports to tidy up, but i think ill leave them until i fit the port frames. Next is the Launch and the fancy decorations. then some reading to do before atempting the lower half of the hull.Cool Cool

WTG, Stu Cool

That black box wood looks real good. I am now seriously considering going down that line, rather than end up with a flat black painted section.

Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming.

Very impressive work Stu, judging by your work I don't think you are going to have to many issues in planking the lower hull.... BigGrin BigGrin
