stujue wrote:cool job Alan. coming on a treat. Any advice on the airbrushing like ratio of paint to water mixes. Thanks Stujue, appreciate the nice comment... .. As for airbrushing tips, I am probably the last one that can answer this considering it is my first time using one.... .. On the top of the hull I used acrylic paint and watered it down to roughly 1 part paint to 1 part water, tried to get the consistency of milk.... .. Am sure others with more experience can give a lot more advice plus you can always search on youtube, there is tons of airbrushing tips on tutorials you can be researching on.... .. Hope this helps.... thanks again.... Regards Alan

Hope you manage to get an airbrush soon, I love it even though it takes a little getting used to. Can't stress enough, have a few practice sessions on an artists pad especially for acrylic paint.... Hi Stu, best way to get used to one is to practice using it, get used to using the brush at various distances from the object... After a little while you will start to get the hang of it... Experiment with thinning paint down and again you will soon learn the best mix to achieve the results you want... .. I love it even though I still have a lot to learn about the airbrushing art.... Tonight I decided to continue using the airbrush and decided to do the red strip along the hull except I decided to use burgundy instead of red... .. After masking off as per the instructions in the mag I once again put my heart in my mouth and got to work.... once again am very pleased with the results.... .. Tomorrow am going to apply the sapele planking to the stern before tackling the keel and bow sections.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

She looks fabulous Alan!!!!You have yet another string to your bow with the airbrushing.I think the burgundy looks far superior to the 'Ferrari rosso red' Kind Regards Nigel

Couldn't agree with you more, to me the red was just a little too striking so after a couple of test pieces I settled on the burgundy..... Regards Alan

Hi Alan, Just a suggestion, but you may find planking the transom alot easier if you split the sapele down to make narrower planks. It will follow the curve you have in two directions much more easily. Kind Regards Nigel

Won't it look a little odd with the different thickness of planks along the hull??.. say reducing from 5mm to 3mm... Regards Alan

Won't it look a little odd with the different thickness of planks along the hull??.. say reducing from 5mm to 3mm... Regards Alan No it shouldn't because it was common practice to use narrower planks for areas like this.In actual fact the widest planks were used below the waterline and the width was reduced as you move up the hull.I planked my transom with 3mm strips. The area at the top with the really tight radius is the biggest problem. You will only get 2 planks 5mm wide in there so it will be like a 50p.If you try and sand a proper radius in there you will go through the thin planking. Kind Regards Nigel
