Issue 46 - Contains basswood & bamboo strips, cannonballs and grating strips.
Start by splitting a bamboo strip in half lengthwise, then cut two 47mm strips.
Glue the strips onto the face of the quartedeck, placing them in position as shown. (the strips must protrude at least 15mm above the quarterdeck.
Now cut and glue 47mm long pieces of bamboo strip to clad the front of the quarterdeck as shown.
When the glue has fully set, sand the tops of the stips so that they project above the deck no more than 15mm.
Cut bamboo pieces to infil the gap at both ends of the forcastle deck. (To make the fitting of these easier, I cut away the exposed part of the bulwark frames which you will be doing in issue 47 to all of the bulwark frames in this area).
Use the remaining split bamboo strip, and cut two strips 41mm long,and glue them as shown. Again, ensure that the bamboo strips rise 15mm above the forecastle deck, then proceed to clad the face with bamboo strips as before.
To make the gratings of the thrid deck, take two grating strips and cut them to 40mm long, then join the two strips with normal length grating strips. Add the balance of grating strips to fil the square, then over pait with diluted PVA glue to set the piece - ensure it is square.
Use the grating strips from Issue 44 to make a second identical grating.
Carefully sand the gratings so they are a snug fit and sit flush with the deck.
Stain walnut, two strips of 1x3x300mm strip. Then cut strip lengths to line the edge of both gratings as shown.
This completes this stage.

Issue 47 - Contains basswood strips, diecast columns and buckets.
Fill, then sand the strips of the cladded fascia's assembled at the last stage.
Cut away the four rib projections supporting the bulwark sides on both sides of the model, then smooth any roughness flush with the deck and bulwark.
Plank the inside of bulwark sides using the 0.6x5mm basswood strips as shown. Then smooth the surface and paint it to match the gun port linings.
Stain two srtrips of basswood walnut, set aside to dry, then cut a strip to length to run along the edge of where the the bulwark side and deck meet, then glue it in place. Repeat at the oposite side of the model.
Thats it for this stage.
Carefully store the columns and remaing basswood strips for later use.

Issue 48 - Contains bell housing parts, belay pins, buckets, bell, finial decoration and basswood strips.
Mask the deck at the foot of the upright cladded strips completed in the last stage, then paint the face of the cladding black , (Do not paint the reverse side).
Take two strips of 1x3mm wood provided in Issue 46 and stain them walnut.
Cut short strip lengths to sit either side of each bulwark gunport then glue them in place to leave a 1mm gap from the edge of the port hole.
Take another 1x3mm strip, cut a 10mm and two 3mm lengths. Glue the peices together to make a cannonball rack as shown.
You will need to make 8 racks, then glue each centrally between the gun ports.
Fill each of the racks with the Issue 46 cannonballs, then apply matt varnish or dluted PVA glue to set them in place.
Take the metal buckets and handles provided with Issues 47 & 48, assemble and paint them as shown.
Step 18 indicates to make graphite powder by sanding a pencil tip, then putting the power into the buckets to simulate gunpower.
Be careful if you take this option, should the power be blown from the buckets, it will stain anything that it comes into contact with such as the deck etc.
As an alternative you could put some dark gunmtal or black black paint into the bucket and set aside to dry.
Glue a bucket in front of each of the cannonball racks. I have opted to place all the buckets later on in the build.
Thats it for this stage.
Carefully store the remaining parts.

Issue 49 - Contains diecast window decorations and a plywood block.
Remove any burr's from the diecast parts, then prime and paint them as indicated and set aside until the next stage
Remove parts 76 & 77 from the fret, then glue parts 76 on top of 77 and set aside for he glue to fully dry.
Use a sanding block to bevel the edge of part 76 on all four sides, then stain walnut the uppermost side. This is the bell housing base.
Take the 3x3x300mm wooden strip provided in Issue 48, and cut four 25mm long lengths. Check the fit of each of the posts into the corner slots of the bell housing base.
Make a light pencil line 5mm at each end all around each length, then use a file to bevel the corners between the lines.
Stain all four posts walnut, then glue them in into the corner slots of the bell housing base, ensure the posts are set upright and at 90 degrees to the base.
Remove a second part 76 from the fret and also part 79, then glue part 79 onto 76 with its outlined edge uppermost.
Bevel the edges of part 76, then take part 80 from the fret and glue it centrally onto part 79. This is the bell housing roof.
Use a round file to shape the sie edges of the peices assembled to give them a concave shape.
Set the bell housing, roof and remaining parts aside until the next stage.
Carefully store the painted diecast parts and wooden block for later placement.

Issue 50 - Contains diecast window parts, stern window templates, brass mesh and a length of brass axle wire (shortage from previous gun kits).
Remove any burrs from the diecast parts, then prime and paint them as indicated.
Take the right and left stern window templates and use them to cut the brass mesh window sections for the PA4 & & PA19 parts in this issue and the PA2 & PA21 parts provided in Issue 49.
Glue each mesh section in place from the inside of the castings.
Take the hull., paint black the side and rear gallery panels. If you have a remaining unfinished section beneath the gallery, fix a strip of sapele veneer and sand to shape to complete this area.
Instructions are provided in this issue to start placing the rear gallery panel castings, or you can wait and fit the castings as a set when you receive issue 53, where you will then be able to lay them all out to see how they interact with each other and check the fit etc as per the images in this link..

The official build for 49-53 will only follow the preparation and painting of the castings along with the other build content of these issues.
The rear gallery panel castings will be fitted at Issue 53, where from here, I will be using the magazine images for ease of illustrating parts placement and contruction etc.
