Hi Andy!
I was listening to this account on the radio yesterday, a truly terrifying story made even worse by the American High Command's attempts to put the whole blame for the tragedy onto the Captain of the ship. In actual fact he DID manage to get off an SOS after the ship was torpedoed which was picked up by the US Navy who then completely ignored it. I wonder if there was some blanket ban on passing on ANY radio traffic mentioning the Indianapolis because she was carrying the atomic bomb to the airfield for the Enola Gay? Some dimwit probably decided that even a distress call from a sinking ship under radio silence had to be blocked too!
If you remember, Quint "I'll never put on a life preserver again!"
the shark hunter from Jaws was a survivor from the Indianapolis!

Good thread Andy
