I am painting the machine-gun barrels and the instructions call for iron grey paint. Looking through what is available from Tamiya it appears they make nothing by that name. I did notice that they have something title IJN Grey (SASEBO) which might be the colour. My question is what colour did anyone use when painting the machine-gun barrels. I know it is a very small point but I've been anal retentive up to this point so why stop now. Confused Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Dan

BigGrin Hi Dan
Now paint that's a can of worms but as the Yamato was built at the Kure dockyards the overall grey would be Tamiya X-75 [ Kure Arsenal] which i used throughout when building my model.
As for other fittings it depend's what time period of the ships life you are modelling as Yaturo has pointed out towards the end of the war paint of any kind was running out so machine guns would have been left in the black factory finish and not painted grey but earlyer in the war some grey camo would have been used on them. I dont think the Sasebo grey is the colour your after as it is another grey from another shipyard i think. Hope this helps

Hi Dan
I used GIS Mr.Color "Steel" whose number is C28. Although attached pictures are Akagi's machine guns, their color is the same as the color of the Yamato's machine guns.
I heard that TAMIYA paint series does not contain it. If you can not get GIS series, you can use mat-black with a very small mount of silver.
If you hope using this mixed paint, you had better try it on other materials before painting the sent parts.
I hope this helps you.
Best Regards,
Yutaro
