Hi Alan.
That grating is superb! a lovely job and well worth the time put in it. Incidentally, I was looking at the smaller prow grating you made first, I counted 85 separate pieces in it! I didn't bother on it's big brother! Blink (actually I kept losing count and gave up!)Flapper

Very well done.

Robin

Thanks for the kind words Robin, appreciated...Cool Cool .. You obviously have too much time on your hands if you have the time to sit there and try to count the parts....LOL LOL Flapper Flapper .. All I know is there were a lot of parts to put together for both sections..... Cool Cool

Hi Alan,

Great work, tried but can not see the seam where the two grates joint. Top job, welldone.

Claret

Thanks Claret, the reason you cannot see the seams is because the joints are actually on the spars underneath running top to bottom, the cross spars fit the width without the need for any joints.... Cool Cool.. If I turned the piece the other way up then you may see them.... BigGrin BigGrin

Did some work on the beak, first thing was to fair the tops of the ribs to ensure a smooth fit for the decking.. Cool Cool ... Painted the beak black and also gave the bow deck a coat of matt clear varnish...Cool Cool .. Finally dry fitted everything to see how it all fitted and looked.... am happy with the results...BigGrin BigGrin .. Hopefully will get the deck fitted along with side panels tomorrow... Cool Cool

Happy building all..

Thanks Nigel, the instructions don't call for it just yet but I don't see any reason why it can't be painted now so will probably do that tomorrow when painting the underside of the gallery... To be honest, the instructions don't call for the side galleries to be painted yet either... Will see how tomorrow works out.... Cool Cool

Progressing slowly but am now happy to say I have completed issues 42 and 43. Sanded down the planking on the underside of the portside gallery, when happy gave it a coat of matt black paint... As the paint was out I also decided to take the opportunity to paint the stern panel including the inner side.... Still needs a second coat but that will be done before fitting the ornamentation... Cool Cool .. Whilst working in this are I also decided to tidy up the sapele planking on the stern, removing two of the strips than had become damaged.... only thing left to do here is to treenail.... happy with the results so far... Cool Cool

Fitted and painted the side panels on the beak. Wasn't too happy with just the inner panel being painted so decided to plank it using .5mm basswood, think it looks a lot better. Finished off by fitting the 1 x 3mm strip to tidy everything off.... Cool Cool .. Also gave the sapele strips along the hull a coat of matt clear varnish and intend to give it another coat yet.. Cut the 6 deck sections free from the frets and sanded all the black ash off.. Carried out a dry fit and found they fitted with very little problems or alterations however, I did feel the ports on the centre section were just a touch too low for my liking, by about 1mm.. Will have a closer look tomorrow but think my intention is the lower the deck, this method creates the least amount of disruption and by the time it is finished I do not think it will be noticeable... Blushing Blushing .. Will post details of the fix as I progress....

Happy building all..

Alan

Thanks Nigel, have to admit I am pleased with the way it has turned out....BigGrin BigGrin .. Not sure whether to plank to outside of the prow panels so have decided to leave it as is until the ornamentation of this part makes an appearance... can be done at a later date if necessary... Cool Cool .. Thanks again...
