Hi Andy
your model looks stunning, BigGrin BigGrin , can i ask where you got your black boxwood from, os it the same size planks as the saple

cheers stu

Thanks StuBigGrin
it's pretty much the same size 0.7 x 4.5mm, so the difference is not noticeable.
Andy. Is this the power supply?

http://www.proxxon-tools...-Mains-Adaptor-12V.html
That's the exact one I use. I run the Proxxon Pen Sander off it too.

I've not been posting on this build for a while, due to medical reasons. I've explained more in my Samurai build diary.
However, I have finished the second planking and hopefully will be returning in earnest toward the end of August. The build is now getting interesting with the arrival of the first castings etc. So I'm really looking forward to itBigGrin BigGrin

Hi Everybody, I have decided after much deliberation to add to the growing list of build logs. My main motivation is that I am hoping that it will keep me on track and complete this build. All comments welcome. I've never done this before so I may stumble a little to start.

Issues 1 & 2 Completed.

I follow your built for your respect to detail. After reading your green stuff solution, I went to the "Emty Room" to do some thinking. I have come up with this in following pics. Please give some ideas how to improve this look to give it the Vintage look.

Have finally returned from 'Zombie Land' and I am now doing some catch up on my SOTS.

THe First thing I have done is modified the Stern Planking, by using 2 part filler and tapering in the First Planking to give a smooth transition and allow me to Second Plank right to the back of the Stern Post with a finished width of 4mm. Both sides of the Lower Hull were then finished with the Maple Strip in Full lengths. I do not want a painted finish as I find the natural wood more pleasing to the eye, I also feel that this is a reasonable representation of whatever 'stuff' they were using as a protective layer below the water line.
Having then added the Keel Pieces, it became necessary to have some kind of Stand. I played around with some Walnut for a Cradle Stand, but in the end settled for a very simple Stand made from Balsa, which is just a slot for the Keel and allows the flat bottom of the Hull to sit level. As this is very soft it also avoids any scratching of the Maple. It is also very forgiving to the surface it is sitting on (such as my shiny new 'AirPrint' printerLOL)

Next I added the Red 'Go Faster' Stripe. I didn't want anything too Red or too gaudy so after trailing a few finishes, I settled for a Dark Maroon, which comes in a Rattle Can by Canbrush. It is a gloss finish, but as I will be applying a Matt or Satin Varnish over it, this will disappear. It has also come out a little darker than in the photo, than it is in reality.
Then I added the Gun Whales for these I used 5x2mm Lime Wood which I sprayed Matt Black. I found it too difficult to fix along the swept edge of the stripe and curve around the Hull in a single length, so I ended up fitting them in sections and fixing with pins which i pushed below the surface. After a little filler, sanding and a touch up with the Matt Paint it now looks like a single piece again.

Thanks Alan, it's good to be back. I've got a lot of catching up to do after my enforced and extended sick leave. Still it feels great to be relatively pain free and off the 'Zombie' meds. Love Laugh BigGrin
