Main gun deck vents
Total build time 185 hours

Started working on the deck vents that surround the main gun mount of Bruno. Trumpeter have done an excellent job of these vents. both MK1 and Eduard offer additional etch to that supplied in the kit. The Eduard set provides replacement walkways and ladders and replace some of the moulded parts with detailed etch. unfortunately their handrails are all wrong and very delicate to fold into shape. The MK1 handrails are better but still not correct. So I have used the MK1 walkways and the Eduard parts that replace the moulded plastic. On part D19 I used the Eduard ladder but removed the tabs for mounting it. the vent already has these and unlike the Eduard etch they are in the correct position. Both MK1 and Eduard supply replacement grills for some of the vents. Eduard's sit inside the moulding where as MK1 sits on top. in the case of part D19 I used the Eduard grating because the MK1 instruction omit part numbers so was not sure which ones to use.

BigGrin Hi Jase
I have the same problem when I get started 2 sets of etch to cherry pick and find the best of the two but we both know the results will be worth the effort, keep up the good work

Hi Andy, biggest problem is hand rails, Eduards are to delicate and easily bend the MK1 railse are not as well researched as they could be.

Hi Nigel, thanks for the kind words. I do use an etchmate tool and other things Laugh I have a tool makers mini vice which is ideal for nice crisp 90 degree bends, forming curves is the most challenging part, there are tools for that but to be honest I think there over priced so ha e not invested. Maybe I will add working with etch to my model making know how articles.

Nice Etch work Jase. ThumpUp
A tutorial on Etch handling would be great. Some of the Etch coming onto the market is, as you know, absolutely stunning, but very intimidating for the inexperienced. Plus the instructions that come with a lot of PE leave much to be desired.

Hi Jase
Looks like I have started something hereLOL A know how on working with etch would be fantastic!!!!!!!I do put builds aside when patience is stretched, but the SOTS has seemed to really get to me like no other and whilst the drive is flowing like mad,I run with it.Dora will appear on the forum at some point but she is in the loft for the time being. The box weighs in at about 40kg so it was a nightmare to get up there.I will bring her down when ready to continue.
Kind Regards Nigel

hi I seen in you post about your etch ,to get round corners have you tried using a pencil rubber the square type by laying the etch piece on it and pressing down on it with around bar, drill ect.
