Hi I'm wondering whether or not to clear coat or not? I've completed the build. I know there are threads about clear coat. My question is that there seems to be 2 methods.Spraying for the advanced and for those that that completed up to issue 75 I think. And then there is post that talks about Klear coat with a brush with equal finish it seems? As I've completed the build the latter option seems the way to go? Just wondering Help? Or should I be just happy I got this far :0)

Hi Jonny

Let me start by saying that if your happy with how your's looks then leave it at that but if you want to go down the Clear Coat route then you need to understand that the finish is not always as perfect as some would like it to be... When I say that I mean it can be down to 2 things... Skill and Experience

If you have not clear coated any thing like this before then stop right there.. if you have then I would suggest maybe perchasing a spare copy and use it to practice on.. I use an Airbrush for almost everything and the techniques I have used on many different models will always most definately have different results everytime..

So if you have experience with an airbrush then practice before taking the leap.

2nd and most important is do not use a brush.. ever (IMO)

I used kleenex mens tissues (less fibre) and after folding a few times dipped the tissue into the solution then in one stoke applied to the area.. let dry for ten mins and repeat building up the coats.. after 4-5 coats then gently polish being carefull not to catch anything and break it..

I used Johnsons Kleer without any problems. but see note below

IT MUST BE AQUEAUS BASED WHICH IS WATER BASED.... DO NOT USE ANY THING ELSE!!!!!!

Have thought about your advice....if I were to only clear coat the red on front and rear spoilers so that it matches other red side cowlings etc....and use a cotton bud? Cheers Jonathan

You could use a cotton bud but make sure it is of very high quality so that none of the fibres come off onto your work but as before i don't recommend using them on the rest of the car..
