I have just ordered a set of drawings for a Mississippi sternwheeler. Would you be interested in a build diary for this model? I must advise you that this is my first serious large scale scratchbuild. I have made numerous structures for American model railroads, including a couple of freelance HO scale bridges. I am retired and would get a great deal of pleasure doing something useful.

Hi Tony Your build would be more than welcome and a nice subject as its a little bit different. The place to put it would be in 'The Other Ship Builds' in the Members Ship Builds section regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Such a build would only benefit the forum. I relate to this vessel in the story of Huckleberry Fin. Since then I became interested in the dynamics of steam engines. Should you continue with this thread, I would like some furniture and engine room detail included in the build. Marcel, I spent 30 years of my working life as a merchant navy engineer officer, please be assured there will be plenty of engineering detail supplied. The drawings are 1:50 scale, so should be able to supply reasonable detail.

Marcel, I am actually ancient enough to have sailed on a ship with a steam reciprocating main engine. SS Rubens (Lamport and Holt Line) Jan to Apl 1967. I have also worked on steam turbine powered ships. I think I am qualified to answer any of you questions. Please feel free to ask, though maybe this is not the best forum to do it on.

A full on scratch build project would be a real joy to watch. I think many of us would be very interested in that.

Hello all, an update for you. My sternwheeler drawings arrived this lunchtime. The finished model will be a little over 30" long, 9" wide, and 19" high to the top of the funnels. I have just ordered some wood which will get most of the hull done. Hopefully I should have something to post in a couple of weeks.
Tony.
