Hello Steve,
I don't often comment on the ship builds, not my thing if I'm honest but there are some on here who are doing some fantastic builds and when I notice a good'un I feel compelled to make comment, especially on one such as yours!
Your Vic build is stunning mate, supremely neat and tidy and true craftsmanship - a joy to behold!!
Well done mate on a great job and well done also on the new medal - totally justified and very well deserved!
Kev

Hi Thanks for all the comments, no update just now, i have done a few things but no pics yet. I was just wondering what peoples opinions were on an idea i have. Does anyone think that the twisted black / gold solder i used on the entrances would look ok fitted to the extreme edges of the stern gallery, im reaching this area soon so want to get it all planned out. If you look at the real vic there is a decoration all round the edge similar to the entrance ports, I cant show a photo as i don't have any of my own, just wondered if this might look ok? Steve

Steve Hi Steve.
In principle should not be an issue although the decoration is only half round. however you may be able to use the side galery trim to hide that? I was thinking of just rounding of the end of a plank strip then using a saw to make the groves then tidy up. maybe Mr brook has a thought on this?
I have attached one of my pics so people understand what your discussing.

thanks for putting the pic up Jase (i have never been to the Vic so don't have any pics of my own). The kit just used a trim around the outside but i think it can look better somehow, maybe as you say hiding half of the solder "rope" so you cant see it all, or if its pressed up against a trim it may look ok - should def brighten it up anyway and i was pleased with the look of the entrances. The plank carving sounds good but im not really and good with wood carving, might do a test piece? Steve

No, not heard of the pack you were offering, downloading it now. Had a quick look and looks fantastic, so organised too - going to have a good look through after. Am I allowed to use a pic from these to put on this forum if needed - to describe something for instance? Thanks anyway, will be very useful. Steve

Hi Steve, I saw your post #91, and I myself also missed something on the edge of the stern. I solved that on a very easy way. May be not the most beautiful way, but for me it is OK. I took a 2x5 and cut with a knife a number of triangles out of the corner of the 2x5 on distances of about one mm. One cut straight under 90 degrees and one cut under about 45 degrees. May difficult to understand, but the pictures show what I mean. May be, it gives someone an idea how to improve it. Jan Zwart Current build: HMS Victory Already built: Half moon, Stadt Bremen.

Hi Steve Looking at the trim piece in question,I would find a hacksaw blade with the right tooth spacing.Clamping this against a wood strip in a vice, you can use as a guide for the needle file. This replicates the profile and ensures consistancy. Then it is a case of round the points across with a needle file in an upward fashion to match the picture. This would produce the top(make straight and bend to taffrail)and the two sides. That would only leave the two shaped corners that would have to be done freehand out of sheet timber.Hope this gives you an idea. Kind Regards Nigel
