Something like the Markie engines but in instalments because 3 grand is a big wedge to pay in one go

A nice choice and would love to see a nice showmans engine, but Partwork companies tend to be very nervous about introducing self assembly live steam models to the masses, for obvious reasons..

I believe also that there are laws that say the boiler has to pass inspections for h& safety reasons. I never knew that, not looking good for a traction engine subscription then is it ha ha. It is a shame though I've always wanted to build one but cant really afford a kit outright

A few years ago,Winson engineering offered various steam powered kits. All the boilers were built, tested, and certified by the manufacturer. So it could be done, and possibly at a reasonable price, if enough subscriptions were obtained.

Something I should have mentioned in my last post, it was virtually impossible to get any of the models to run; burning coal, or wood. Butane is a suitable fuel source. But, having the knowledge to do this safely; is another story.

Phil, if you really want to build a traction engine, can I suggest model Engineer magazine, or perhaps contact one of the supply companies for model engineers.

I will look into it when i get back from afghan as i really want to build one as for getting them to run my uncle said he had the same problem after he brought his one years ago already built from a steam fair, he tried twice to get it to run and he said he could not get the heat it needed so i gave him some heximine tablets and they worked brilliantly

Phil, Come back safely. I don't know what or any machine tools you have access to, you can buy rough castings which you machine yourself, or you can get the finished items; at a greater cost. I would suggest you buy the largest scale model you can comfortably afford. It really is a case of the bigger they are, the easier they steam.
