Looks great Kobus, I really enjoy watching these SA builds, as I tend to get Tunnel Vision and see only the mass of work ahead. It helps to be reminded of all that hard work behind meLOL BigGrin BigGrin

BigGrin Great job Kobus,

You are ahead of me. I became lazy when the cold struck Cape Town. Rain and snow kept me under the blankets watching tv. I am collecting issues and oredered verneer and planks from hobby shop for an interesting build

Your planking looks great

Hi Marcel

Wondered what happened to you!Confused

I've recently placed an order with Cape Watchmakers for some saw blades and drillbits, awaiting delivery. What kind of verneer have you ordered? I'm planning on using maple to plank the bottom of the hull.

Enjoy the rest!

Started cutting my own maple strips for the second planking, 1.5 x 5 mm. Happy with the outcome!BigGrin

Did a test piece to see how the aliphatic glue will mix with black paint, for the chaulking lines. Sanded just a portion of the test block made of my home cut maple.

Think it will work.LOL

This looks good, what a great idea with the paint mixed with glue. Does the paint change anything with the glue, strength, drying time etc. Also, how much effort is needed to get the black glue off the planks when dry?

Hi Steve

It doesn't look if the paint has change anything with the glue. I wasn't carefull when applying the glue to the planks and it took a bit of sanding but nothing excessive! I think it will work great for the chauking.

Hi Hans

Thanks for looking in and the nice comment. Must admit that I saw on an USA website they advertised decks glued with black glue and then started experimenting with PVA and alaphatic glues. I think the PVA works better as the alaphatic dries out very quickly.

A very innovative idea KobusCool Cool As regards the paint you are using. If I can remember all those years ago,the paint we used in junior school was waterbased, but it came in powder form.I just thought if you could find this(hopefully should be quite easy to find in toy shops)this might make mixing easier and it wouldn't thin the glue.
Kind Regards Nigel

Hi all

Just a small update! The hobby show was excellent. Bought myself a Proxxon table saw, the small one (KS230), and very happy with it! Love Started cutting my own maple strips for the second planking.

Received my next four issues, 24 to 27, and will continue with the bamboo planking in the next few weeks.

Will post some photos over the weekend!

Enjoy your building!
