Small update on stuff, been having a go at the figurehead, been on my mind for a while, been thinking about buying one but first thought I`d have a go, so heres my progress on the attempt at one of the small guys willz attached the following image(s):

Not brilliant but I`m OK with it, not finished yet quite a bit left to do, the position of the feet is a little crazy, the arm in the air rests on the crown so leaving it uncarved at the mo,

Thank you all for your comments, much appreciated. As for the tools I use Trev they are very basic, below is a pic, most of the finishing work is done with a stanley blade used like a scraper gently scraping material away, I am getting more confident with the dremel but extreme care is needed, I have lots of needle files (diamond is best) the edges on some of the files has been ground off smooth enabling me to concentrate on the area I'm filing without damaging bits at the side, as for photo`s of the piece being carved I'm sorry I dont have any, all the work is done holding the piece in my left hand whilst carving with the right willz attached the following image(s):
