Hi Nigel,

Thank you.

It is quite a slow process. Painted them all individually, and black marker along the edges. Aliphatic glue used to glue them down, and I use a piece of dummy gun support longer than the 60mm plank to butt up against and push onto the last row of planks to make sure there is a tight fit.

The Amati plank cutter is a godsendBigGrin

Hi,

A lot more work done this week, finished off the planking and tree nailing. The treenailing was done by drilling 0.4mm holes and threading 0.3mm fishing line through and pushing flush with the deck. I did not have black line so used permanent black marker to colour the ends before inserting. tedious job, but pleased with the results.

I also added the supports for the forecastle and quarter decks, plus the dummy cannon supports in between treenailing to relieve the monotony of the work.

finally gave the deck a coat of matt clear varnish.

pics below.

Thanks for looking in.

Regards
Claret

Hi,

An update on my progress.

I have glued the forecastle and quarter deck bulwarks.

I also fitted one of the grate openings. Because I used 1mm gratings which are 33mm square, I decided to mod the area and use the walnut stained planks to cover the grating joints. Outcome below:

Thanks for looking in.

Hi Claret

The gratings look stunning!Drool

How many sets of the 1mm (33 mm) gratings would be required to cover the required areas? Need to source it in SA to see if its available, otherwise need to look at the UK to order some!Crying

Kobus
