Like I say, the photo's really don't do the metallic gold any justice at all, much much better seeing it with the naked eye.... .. Thanks again,, Regards Alan

Carried on painting some of the gallery parts tonight and then played around with the bell housing uprights. Deviated from the instructions and am happy with what I finished with.... first attempt at so called carving, nothing to grand.. .. Second coat of walnut stain added to the base.... Have started the second pillar and will continue tomorrow.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

hi alan, great bit of carving there, just think what a turned post would look like? stick a lathe on your wish list, you never know? This is looking good, very nice build. I wouldnt use dry brushing on the gold but I think a wash would look better as this would leave the brightness of the gold but simply darken the reccesses, I always use vallejo washes and a sepia or umber wash would look very nice on that gold Steve

Kind Regards Nigel Thanks for the encouragement Nigel... must admit I enjoyed having a go at hand carving even though I have a Unimat 1... Haven't quite mastered the Unimat yet but will keep practicing with it.... Now the trick is to get the other 3 to match.... Regards Alan

Regards Alan My pleasure Alan,it's nice to see your having a go .When doing several identical carvings,I try and break the process down into stages and perform each stage on every one before doing the next step, this helps with consistency. It also helps that you designate the first as the pattern and make the others match, don't alter the pattern to suit a later carving,if you take to much off one, confine to 'recycling'.Otherwise your carvings will get smaller and smaller,if you get my meaning. Kind Regards Nigel

Still going to have a go at turning some pillars to see how they turn out.... Thanks again Regards

4 pillars done and am pleased with how they have turned out.... Also played around with the camera and I think I have a couple of better pics giving a better idea of the look and depth of the metallic gold I have chosen.... More painting tomorrow.....
