Hi Andre
I used a tooth pick and super glue and it worked like a dream. As per usual you only have a few seconds to adjust, but if you size and align with a few guiding lines it works well.

Thanks Pierre and Hans for the advice on the glue. An american co-worker is bringing me Formula 560 glue to use. Below are some random photos of what I have done so far.

I will try to get the gallery and rest of the deck finished when I am home at end of Feb.

Andre

Thanks Pierre

14 days to go and I will be home and the shipyard will be open. Cannot wait to continue building.

Question: What is the diameter of the wire used on theyards for the footrope?

Good Day All

A belated mail and thanks for the comments.

I have completed the stern galleries.
[/img]

Have completed the bow and made the planking wider so as to fit the ornaments. A problem that was identified by the forum members at the beginning of the build.
[/img]

I remade the platform and ladders from the poop deck to the main deck. will finish them off when the shipyard opens in 12 days. the reason for this was that the ladders would run into the canons and I was not happy with it.
[/img]

Finally, an overall view of the Victory. After this build, I will not be painting anymore as I have a problem trying to paint a straight line.

Regards to all

Cannot seem to upload the photos with photobucket. Well back to the drawing board to see what went wrong or what has changed.

Looking good there Andre. sorry to see you have a problem with straight line painting. I have quoted a piece from DaDokta wherby he gives a little advice for bleeding and straight lines.

"I guess you already know that - but when masking the waterline (or any line) with tape, you first should paint a thin coat of the colour, you are masking, along the tape.

When dry, you can paint the other colour, which now can`t run under the masking tape.

E.g. you first paint the copper part - then you mask the waterline. Then you paint a thin coat of copper along the tape on the side, where the black paint will be. And then, when dry, you apply the black coat."

I hope this helps. Cannot talk from expereience as i am using natural colours and varnish. It does make sense and sound logical.

Thanks Hans and Pierre

Will be posting photos shortly as I am up installing the masts to permanently attach the shrouds.

I have a question: are anyone of you two going to build the pikes that fit onto the fore and main masts. My reason for asking, is that I cannot find 1.5mm tape so I will not be going that route.

Regards

Andre

Hi Andre
Good build you have there. Nice clean lines. yes I did put the pikes on. I struggled a little but eventually got there. I also could not find the micro tape so took a piece of dowel about 50mm long, I think it was 12mm, drilled a 10mm hole down the centre and then sliced them the wanted size. Drilled holes for the pikes and superglued them in place. I will have to check the sizes to night and come back to you. Watch this space.

Good Day to All

I was trying to attach the Hammock frames as per magazine instruction and found that it was very difficult to keep the frames upright, insert the rods and sew on the nets. I the made a jig where I could do it all at once. The first step was to measure the length where a hammock frame would go, divide the amount of frames into the length, mark the distance between the frames on a piece of wood (19mm thickness). cut slots on the markings, install the frames, insert the rods (glueing them in place) and finally attaching the nets. The following is a photo of the jig I made. Do not worry about the frame that is at an angle, when fitted to the ship it is vertical.

So far, I have attached all the masts, fitted the shrouds and connected the lower mast shrouds to the chainwales.

The shipyard is now closed until August when I return home from Afghanistan. I will then continue with tensioning the shrouds and connecting the next set of shrouds and then follow the next step as per the magazine.

Cheers to all.

Andre

Thanks for all the comments. I have not done anything further on my build due the changing of work as well as location. I am now in Mali and will only be home mid November.
