Hi, Not sure if I sure be posting the diary here, but it is a ship of sorts! The flying sub is the iconic sub/plane form the cult tv series 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea'. I remember building this when it first came out many moons ago, and after getting the modelling bug again with the 007 Aston Martin and the Soveriegn of the Seas builds, decided to build it again. payed a small fortune on ebay for it!! Lovely detail and measures some 350mm in width. Well boxed, with chrome yellow, grey and clear moulded plastic. I have purchased a lighting kit, PE and decals for this. to break myself into plastic modelling again, i started on the floor of the sub. Moulded in clear plastic with four hexagen areas. if there are no objections to this diary, I post more later. Regards claret Also working on: SOTS. Moebius 1/32 Flying Sub with PE & lights.

Hello Claret,
That looks like a very interesting kit you have there? Very reminiscent of the yellow disc shaped mini-sub that Jacques Cousteau used on his real-life underwater adventures from his ship 'Calypso' back in the seventies?
I think it will be an interesting build to watch, thanks for posting the diary.

Hi Karl & Jase, Thanks for looking in and the comments. If you ask my partner, she will say "Nostalgic?, more like not grown up!' Still I do not recall LED kits and PE kits for such models, but that could be my age and memory I am taking my inspiration from pictures from the series and a wonderful build diary from Ian Lawrence. Continuing with the floor, i handed it down with 1,200 grade wet and dry prior to painting on the top and then washed the floor with mild soapy water. I masked the hexagon 'windows' as i plan to backlight three of them. once masked I sprayed it with grey primer and left to dry. Once dry I sprayed all over with Mica Blue to give it a metallic blue appearance. The masking tape was removed once this was dry. First ever attempt at spraying plastic, and although saying it myself, i was pleased with the result. Regards Claret Also working on: SOTS. Moebius 1/32 Flying Sub with PE & lights.

Hi Benny B, Thanks for looking in. Yes the Seaview is some model, PE available for it, so not just the price of the model to consider. Regards Claret Also working on: SOTS. Moebius 1/32 Flying Sub with PE & lights.

Hi Alan & Steve, Thanks for looking in and for your comments. The series is available on DVD. At the time it was awesome, but could be dated now. I am doing bits in between the SOTS build, waiting for glue to cure etc. but enjoying it. I have the PE, decals and light kit, will post pics over the weekend. Regards Claret Also working on: SOTS. Hi, A bit more progress. One of the deck hexagons is actually a hatch. Shots from the series, show a yellowish band following the hexagon shape and then the rest of the hatch is a greyish colour, but from the rear of the hatch looking down on it. I masked the rim of the hatch overlapping the clear part by a couple of mm's. I then measured and cut a hexagon the same size as the hatch on graph paper. This was cut smaller by 10mm and masking tape stuck over the paper hexagon. I then cut the paper hexagon out leaving a 2mm masking tape rim. i carefully placed and stuck down (using the 2mm rim) into the centre of the hatch at the back of the deck. the rest of the deck was masked off and i airbrushed the band using Tamiya yellow and grey mix. Once dry the masking was removed and the result is shown below. This is from the underside. From the top of the deck, it looks like this. more to follow later. Regards Claret Also working on: SOTS.
