Morning All, Something of an observation and query in respect of the form of the lower part of the transom. I am about to start planking and have identified what has been bugging me for a while about the look of the stern of the model. From the little I have read, 17th century ships were built with a so-called wineglass transom. This means that the lowest portion of the counter should be flat. It may be that this stern form was adopted when SotS was rebuilt later in her life but by then a significant part of her decoration had almost certainly been removed. The Greenwich Seppings model of SotS has a rounded counter but this model has a number of features that are clearly wrong so this is no useful guide. Anyone else noticed this and, if so, has anyone tried to modify the model to take this into account? I also suspect that the design of the model stern differs from the example model shown in all the magazines as the final planking in a couple of places looks different to what we are to build. We also have not had any instructions to provide cutouts for the eight stern chase guns. Anyone know about those? Regards, Frazer

Welcome to the forum Frazer,
The actual model is how the designer intended to be, though some members have made chages at the stern to reflect what you are talking about.
As yet, no instructions have been provided for the chase guns, though some members have opted to go their own way on these.

Thanks for the helpful replies.
I am not sure where to go with the stern area so I think that I will focus on some of the small build sections like the launch and guns, and see how the stern build develops. It can be tricky to visualise exactly how the details will work out - for me that is part of the fun of building a model in stages like this.
At the moment I am building up the decks, not quite in the order shown in the build because I want to camber the visible upper decks and it will be next to impossible to do the required preparation work if the first planking is on. I will post some pictures if anyone is interested.
