Hi claret
This is a blast from the past, loved the series as a kid.Used to play this out in the school yard with my friends, very nostalgic indeed. Good luck with your build ThumpUp

Hi,

A little more progress.

The hatch was spray painted mid grey and allowed to dry.

I then covered all the rear of the deck with aluminium foil apart from the deck 'windows'. I am planning to light these up, but do not want any light to come through any other area of the deck.

Holding up to the a window showed there was no light bleed anywhere else.

The hexagon 'windows' have a yellow tint to them in the programs, so I sprayed the rear of the deck with Tamiya clear yellow, diluted 50% with Tamiya thinners and air brushed the 'windows'.

the window test gave a nice yellow tint.

finally, the view which will be seen all the time once built. Quite pleased with the result!BigGrin

Thanks for looking in.

Nicely done Claret, will be following you progress especially on the lighting front... Lighting is not something I have tried yet but am thinking of having a go, maybe with the Hood.... Cool Cool

Hi,

Some more progress, working on the frame. All parts cut from the sprue ( missed one of the 'L' shaped support in the photo below ( should be six).

Filler was used to fill in the ejection pin marks caused by the moulding process. I also sanded the mould lines off using 1200 grade wet and dry.

Moulding line example below in the photo.

I modified the ladder, adding an extra rung at the base by drilling through each of the legs and supergluing a 0.5mm drill bit shaft in. This will be used later with a photo etched stowage bracket.

and with additional rung...

Thats all for now.

Thanks for looking.

Hi,

Once the frame parts had been filled and filed down, I gave them a wash, dried them.

They were dry fitted to see everything went together okay, then I glued them together, using the deck to hold them in place while the glue cured. The frame was only dry fitted into the deck.

Next step is to prime the frame and decide on a colour. the manual recommends a steel colour, but the paints recommended are all Testor colour references.

Hi,

Some pictures of the photo-etch, decals and lighting kit.

The lighting kit requires assembly and soldering, but looks straight forward.

The PE looks nice, and seems a shame to spoil it with the decals. one question I need to answer, are the decals once on the PE adequate enough to allow light to shine through?

I may have to do a mix of both 'raw PE and decaled PE to get the best effect.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Mr T & Steve,

Thanks for looking in.

Cost has not been to bad for the accessories, the ebay landing gear & Grabber, is the priciest accessory I have seen.

The lighting kit was nearly extortionate, the e-shop in the states want $54 for shipping, so I closed the basket on line and did not purchase it. A few days later, got an email from them. 'Free postage' offer!! Ordered it, 5 days from Brooklyn to Lancashire via US postal services and Royal Mail, plus I free tracking.

There are some scale resin crew for the sub, but not found them yet.

Regards
Claret

Hi,

Some more progress over the weekend.

Took one of the bulkheads shown below.

I cut out all the raised instruments in the panel, and sanded smooth. I then cut out plastic that will be behind the PE instrument panel to coincide with the holes in the PE. I have the bulkhead a good clean in soapy water, placed the PE panel in place, but not glued and painted with grey primer.

The PE panel was not glued yet because i wanted to paint matt black behind the speaker grill. There is a decal for this, but the PE version looks more realistic.

More to follow.

Regards
Claret.
