Hi all first post on this forum, and a bit nervous about building the spitfire, but sure it will be fun and rewarding :)

I have received pack 1 and the instructions and thought I would make a list of tools and glues required and hopefully you more experienced modellers will be able to fill in the gaps on recommendations on where I am not sure. I will then update this primary post with links or recommendations for all to see. I will also add more tools etc, as the instructions highlight them.

hi raven, your almost there already, sandpaper(glasspaper)is mainly for wood, comes in various grades, medium and fine most used.take a look at this link.
http://www.chronos.ltd.u...permagrit&ACTION=Go
wide range of abrasives.
as for glues, aliphatic on e-bay. and all superglues.
I consider aliphatic glue better then most.

The glasspaper is for rubbing down blemishes on the cast metal parts of the spitfire, would you still use sandpaper for that? and the instructions are suggesting that you will need both glasspaper and sandpaper, hence my question

BigGrin Hi Raven
First off, a warm welcome to the forum and there are plenty of people on here ready with help and advise so don't be afraid to ask.
The glasspaper you will need is called Micromesh nowadays but in my day it was called emery paper its available on flea bay and there are kits available that have several grades to get a fine finish.
Another item you might consider is Brasso's silver and aluminium wadding using this 1st will remove the majority of blemishes and make the surface ready for the fine polishing from the micromesh.
Hope this answers your question

they are both the same sandpaper/glasspaper, the metal parts you use emery paper/cloth.wet/dry emery paper is the most used for blemishes on metal,a lot of different grades with these.

I was thinking, are we also going to need something like a pin hammer? Or are we gluing all the metal parts to the frame? I've only just subscribed and am awaiting my first delivery, any advice would be gratefully heeded. Also do the machine guns and cannon come with the aircraft? I was wondering how many pannels you could remove to show detail?

I'm a long time lurker of the model space fourums having completed the McLaren and have up to part 24 of the Red Bull stashed, two of my ablosute loves are Formula 1 (Hamilton) and WWII, I didn't hear of the Spitfire Build till now and had to have it, Mr T I saw allot of hate and negative comments on the model space blog about painting a better spitfire, I was in awe and amasement as every single negitive point that was raised had clearly been stated in the above blog as factually different, being a WWII nut, I also build plastic kits, mostly so allot of love will go into this, unfortunately due to the fact I browse on my phone and mostly down to being lazy I won't be doing a build diary but I'm so pleased to see this, I'll be painting mine as per the magazine. I'm sorry for the long winded post but thought I'd say hi and introduce myself, I hope everyone's builds are going well, I can't wait to get cracking on this beautiful icon!

Hi Roy, I am sure you are going to enjoy your build. Hope to see you around the forum, always good to share and learn even if you cannot get a build diary up.

You could always post some of your other military builds up in the finished build galleryCool
