Hi Alan I like using Sea grey by Humbrol no 27, plus for the darker shade Tank grey no 67 these are both acrylic. thats all you need, but please use Tamiya primer (grey )it is the best in my opinion happy building Mike MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi Alun I used WEM colourcoat for my Hood they have a range of WWII Royal Navy colours to chips and the quality of the paint is excellent check out the link https://www.whiteensignm...Royal+Navy+Colours/45/1/“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Hi there,I hope u don't mind me intruding and would really appreciate a minute of ur time, I'm new to the forum and the hood is my first ever model build.(a little ambitious? What do u think) anyway I am so glad to have found this site as it has given me the confidence to continue my build! I started my hood about a year and a bit ago and stopped 8 months ago(ish) through a fear of planking. having done limited research( and not really understanding) the "fairing" process. I have shied away until now from the vague (at best) instructions from the mag. And not wanting to make an expensive mistake, i have let the pile of issues build and build. but this build diary has given me the confidence to continue, I wanted to introduce myself ,thank you and ask if you mind me picking your brains if I need to? Thanks for ur time ill post some pics of my progress. James

It has been a couple of months since I posted in this build Diary, although I have been working on my HOOD build on all moments of free time. The job I have been attending too has been the Hull and I will cover that in a later post, suffice to say where the instructions have said to fix the centre deck section to the hull, I have resisted this because in my opinion while sanding and working on the hull damage would occur to the centre deck.(but that is an individuals choice) In this post I will cover the fitting of the next deck, I have followed the instructions as supplied however I have used SERIOUS GLUE as my preferred adhesive. I used glasses of water as the weight to hold the deck pieces in place after applying the adhesive I hope the photos tell the story:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

ISSUE 75 Hi Everyone, in this sessions build, it is all about sanding the new deck you have fitted to a smooth finish:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

ISSUE 75 It is important to point out that when filing the metal deck supports level, you should also in my opinion file the front of the supports at the same time (the instructions are vague regarding this point) I hope the photos will highlight this process. Questions and comments welcome Kind regards Mike PS please note I still have not fitted the centre deck to the Hull, for reasons stated in my last post MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi Mike Your build is looking good as always.
I did consider subscribing to this to go along with the Bismarck but the first 5 issues have been showing "out of stock" for the last few months. Should have done it earlier, but if I had then maybe I wouldn't be building the D51 (pockets only so deep!)
