I second what Magpie has to say, it is a very useful site. Interestingly, the Victory model I looked at last night had yet another colour scheme for the boats ... Hey Ho  Didn't check the others but would be interesting to see if they have been consistent. Mike T

I get the impression that these pictures were taken sometime ago and it looks like they were in the process of re-coppering at the time. The picture which includes the rudder, looks as if the copper has been stripped off and they haven't yet cleaned off the verdigris on the wood, before priming the wooden surface. The bow pictures taken by mavrickandgoose back in March this year clearly shows the copper plates. reference photographsMike T

Could somebody please tell me what that rather large block is that is rigged to the boomkin at the bow on the starboard side? I have made various models of the Victory and that block is new to me. Thanks. Dave H

Morning Dave
Are you referring to the 'heart' which is turned into the lower end of the fore stay? A heart is not strictly speaking a block because it has no moving parts (sheaves) and is part of the standing rigging rather than the running rigging.
If I have misunderstood the question can you say which picture you are looking at?

Hi Dave
I had to delve into the Young Sea Officers Sheet Anchor Page 57
The block you are referring to which is strapped round the boomkin end, carries the Fore Tack which would be passed through another block on the clew of the foresail and then passes back where it is clinched to the boomkin. The other end is fastened off on the fore-castle.
If you have a look at the original set of photos on this post, the 1st one in the right hand column shows the fore tack going through a second block which is held up in the rigging, and would have been detached and then attached to the clew of the foresail once the sails are rigged.
Hope that helps, you can't beat 'the sheet anchor' for illustrating rigging etc
