OK...here's one for the experienced modellers who can also think laterally. I was fixing the wifes curling tongs last night & it suddenly struck me that a set of cheap(to keep costs down) curling tongs & hair straighteners(again cheap,argos do a narrow set) MAY be possible plank benders,the curlers for doing tighter curves & the straighteners for longer more gentle ones.If it was suitable the 2 together would cost less than £10. That is a mind boggling question Rob, funny how normal household electrical goods, i.e, electric iron for straightening warped wooden parts, soldering iron as plank bender, and now curling tongs for the same reason as the latter...I would be more than interested to find out if the curling tongs work on plank bending...if so...then I will buy the missus (she who must be obeyed) some curling tongs for her up coming birthday, then I can nick her tongs... In an abstract moment, after watching ' The Men Who Stare at Goats' I was musing over whether the same principles could be applied to wooden strips. Staring at the neighbours cat didn't work - and neither did glaring at obstinate wooden planks. As for curling tongs, I guess so, but can you get tight, low radius curves (perhaps an Afro tong (?) 'might' work... I'd stick with plank crimpers, those interesting plank roller devices or 'leccy' ones. It all depends upon how far outside 'the box' you want to think (and how big the box is). Schnellboots on back burner

They do come in different sizes, small for tight curls, medium and large. They can be bought with interchangeable heads so might be worth looking into.
