I'm considering setting the SOTS on a sea base, does anybody have any suggestions as to techniques? Also any pointers on achieving the effect of wind filled sails would be appreciated. Cheers guys

I am not actually building the SOTS but have done a few models with sea bases. For a plank on bulkhead kit the best way is to build the frame and plank as normal but from the waterline upwards. When you have a solid planked hull you can then cut off the un-planked bulkheads below the waterline, best done before planking a 2nd layer. As for water I use polymer resin and have submitted an article on this which im hoping to get published here. The sails are best done by damping with watered down pva, attach each corner to a homebuilt wire frame and then use a hairdryer on full power to set the shape of the sail. Steve

i've been looking at how to make realistic water/sea bases for a while and cant really find much useful, though there are a few amazingly well done ones, although i'd just make a template around the waterline rather than cut the bottom of the hull off, then cover the base with some kind of filler to replicate waves. As for sails theres an interesting topic on a russian forum i found which you may find useful - http://forum.modelsworld.ru/topic169.htmlProcessing - Progressing

This may well help. I used this method some years ago on a small scale for a resin destroyerhttp://www.ipmsstockholm...f_eng_tech_sea_water.htm“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
