I bought my Victory as a complete kil, as part of the Elite series, i was sure i had checked all the contents, but i was excited to get started. Now I realise a sheet of Pre cut timber is missing. I identified it as the parts in issue 56 from the build diary here and ordered from the news agent as a back order....two months and no delivery! I can't carry on without the cabin parts, I did consider making them but I have no measurements, the instruction manual with my kit is staggeringly bad. I am constantly on this site for the true method to build (great work Tomic) I keep hoping they will arrive but no luck Very disappointed and it has put me off buying the next model as a part work. In case I have the same issue (no pun intended). Current Build SotS Completed Builds H.M.S. Victory

Hi Joe, I read your forum entry. I am not building the HMS Victory however I checked out the back issue order situation here in the UK certainly number 56 is listed. http://shop.deagostini.c.../build-hms-victory/?p=5
Therefore if desparate I assume I could order 56 from the UK address, unsure of mailing cost to Australia though. regards Dennis

I dont believe you can order a back issue unless you have subscribed. maybe if you post in the victory build thread and ask for measurements somebody can help you. Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Sorry for not responding sooner, I was away on holiday at the time of your post and missed it.
Have you contacted the seller of your full kit, who as a normal rule should be able to obtain what you need from Artesania free of charge.
Have you contacted DeAgostini customer services in Oz to ascertain where your back order is, as these are available to non subscribers too, which if in stock should have been sent if paid for.
I agree, the standard kit manual leaves a lot to be desired even for an accomplished builder..

Hi Joe, Sorry to here your stuck. I'm in Melbourne and not a subscriber to the partwork just have been buying the issues week by week. As Big T says, anyone can order Issues from the newsagent. I have back ordered several Issues from my local Newsagent with no problems. And as for instructions, Tomick's official build guide is as good as it gets. Good Luck. Regard Perksy

Thank you for all the offers of help and advice. In the end I couldn't wait any longer and I made them using some timber from the local hardware store...I think it came out ok. So now I can move forward again. Tomick...the instructions in the kit are now more a source of annoyance than assistance...well unless you want to speak model construction in 6 languages...I knew they had to be good for something Current Build SotS Completed Builds H.M.S. More Amusement...the Belfry canopy is missing! Did not get even slightly upset. looked at the picture worked out a plan and made my own...and i'm very happy with the result. Oh, and an 8mm mast dowel is missing too. it would have been good looking back to have had a parts list to check off, although to be honest i was so excited at finding the kit in my local shop, marked down because they could not sell it, i just grabbed it and ran. Having realised, at last, that the fun is in the making and not being concerned about trying to emulate Tomick, i am now really enjoying myself. Current Build SotS Completed Builds H.M.S. Victory

I understand the feeling of emulating other builds. As a Noob, I am scared to take chances, but soon realised that this is my hobby and the blame is only on me. When I started to experiment with new ideas, the joy of this hobby enlightens me. The good thing about this hobby is we can use our surroundings to solve problems. Sorry to hear your missing further parts, it sounds like you have been sold a kit that has had items taken from it or lost rather than not supplied.
As a novice and in its retail format, you probably could not have chosen a more difficult model ship to build. The instruction manual will drive you bonkers! A shame you did not opt for the partwork version, as the instructions give a blow-by blow account of every stage so that even the novice can achieve a nice build.
Keep at it

The missing parts is disappointing but I'm over it. I think it must have been Friday drinks in the factory or as you say someone has pulled some parts out to look at. Either way it is now not such an obstacle and in a weird way has added to the fun...once I stop cursing. I am sure there are advantages in both part work and kit and until I have tried both I can't really comment...I will be trying another build that is for sure. I remember posting after buying the kit and being recommended to return it and try something a little easier to start with...I understand what they were saying now...especially with the instruction book I have, but the web has been invaluable. I do still rush forward sometimes and end up regretting it and my wife is now certain that "Bugg3r" is a technical term in model ship building. This has gone from me being completely overwhelmed by the sheer size and duration of the build, to now worrying I will eventually finish and need to start planning the next one. My wife is even at the stage of planning where it is be displayed and selecting an appropriate setting in one of the rooms. I am thinking that I might try the sovereign of the seas afterwards but I'm going to have to keep them to scale...maybe a part work, who knows. I have so many tools now (can you ever have enough) that just doing one ship would be a waste of experience and cost I appreciate the feedback and the inspiration to continue to always do it better next time Current Build SotS Completed Builds H.M.S. Hey Joe, Having read of your probs and others on this forum I wonder what I have to look forward to in coming issues and those I have and haven't started yet.I decided to build up the issues before starting. My first disappointment with this model was that I found if I had ordered by credit card and not through the new agent I would have got the tools. This made me wonder how people without credit card got on. I had to order a tool kit from Aussie. Hope everything turned out ok for you.

Sinbad, It seems you are a little upset about the tool box thing but I am not sure that warrants posting the same comment on multiple threads. this is at least two now. Open discussion and debate is fine but lets keep it to a single thread please. You will find most people are more than happy with DiAgostini models and many are repeat purchasers. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
