Hi All, BigGrin

Got to the point where I need to mask up my Sots build, prior to painting.

Have seen this tape in my local B+Q and wondered if anyone has used it and if it was any good.

This tape according to the official website (link below) doesn`t just put a sticky piece of tape on something to form a paint line, it has a paint block as part of it`s construction.

Any thoughts and/or advise please?

Hi there Delboy.

Yes! I bought this when it was first advertised on TV for my own DelPrado Victory.
It is definately better than ordinary masking tape, it's not 100%, but then no masking tape that I've ever used is! (I've never tried the expensive 'modellers' types from Tamiya and others so I can't compare it to them but on all my black and ochre stripes I only had about half a dozen little areas to re-touch and most of them where where the tape crossed over the wales and smaller decorative bands so on average I would recommend this tape with no hesitation.
My own roll (40M Mega Roll) doesn't mention standard or delicate surface, I think when I bought mine it was before they brought out the delicate one, whether that one might be even better I don't know.
One little tip I did develope was to place the tape in position and then lightly paint along the edges with a brush dipped in plain water to activate the 'paintblock' adhesive, I found this worked a little better than simply relying on the water based acrylic Admiralty paint.
Thats a very good tip from FithAce too, never thought of that one! One other thing, I also cut the roll into much thinner strips, about 1/3" wide, it will follow the curves of the hull much easier that way.

Best of luck with it.

BigGrin Hi Del
As in all things you get what you pay for and its the same for masking tape , buy the best you can as cheaper versions which are fine for real life cars ect are just not good enough for our needs.
If they are high or low tack you generaly find that after a couple of tries at lining up that they fail to stick down again properly and one other thing cheap masking tape will lift when water based paint is sprayed on it even when you have pre coated the edges.
I generaly use Tamiya's 15 mm tape for most things and 40mm for bigger jobs, this tape is waxed so no lifting, well rarely lifts when wet. It has also been designed to lift and stick making adjustments more easy.
This is just my experiences using masking tape and im sure others will also have there favourite tape I just use what works for me

Thanks Andy,Cool

I take on board any tips/advise I`m given, especially when it`s me that ask`d the question.

I intend to run a series of tests.

These will include different masking tapes, paints and paint types/mixes and on different surfaces.

I don`t intend to go any further with any of my build projects(that need painting at this time), until I have this skill sussed out to my satisfaction.

Many thanks for your input.
I am very grateful.
