Hi All

After reading what has been done on this site I decided to try a conversion of a paper/card model into wood/plastic. Looking at what's available, finally decided on a GPM Kit of HMS Naiad for the various reasons

Size - its 780mm long x 80mm beam at a scale of 1:200
Photo etch and turned gun barrels are available from the same supplier
Laser cut handrail is also available

All frames and keel parts are in 2mm card on the original but can only get 1.5mm ply so will have to work from centrelines and adjust accordingly
For planking going to use wooden stirring sticks that can be bought cheeply from the internet (If it is not successful then not much lost)

After copying all relevant parts and sticking to ply they were cut out and the frames reduced by the thickness of planking.

Hi Budgie, Gandale.
Thanks for your comments. Realised that just a ships name won't mean much so -

Hi All

Started planking the hull. As the timber I'm using is only 150mm long I've added extra wood to the frames where required. For the bow and stern areas I will be adding blocks and shaping to suit

Hi All

Planking coming along nicely. All prepped for next layer. Will be using 0.5mm and 0.25mm plasticard for the hull plating in rows at about 10mm. This should look about right. Progress so far

Hi All

Decks planked and hull sanded. Used paper templates to mark portholes and hawse pipes. Drilled oversize ready for next layer.

Hi All

Started plating the hull. The plates are 10mm deep. This seems to look right compared to photographs. The plastic is stuck down with RC Modellers glue in alternating bands of 0.5mm and 0.25mm plastic.
