Next was the companion way stairs and railings, this was to be oak coloured even on the painted build so I used burnt umber oil paint for this, I think it looks "oakey" and I have run out of dark woodstain anyway, Im happy with it though. This was standard build but I did narrow the steps a little, instead of using 5x1 strips I used 3x0.5 to give a more scale appearance. stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Next up were the cannons on the quarter deck, all standard to the instructions apart from the ebony stain on the block - the blocks are way over scale, 2mm blocks would probably have been better but I dont have any, so I think by staining them it does take the eye off them slightly so they are not so noticeable. The ladders to the poop deck are also new additions and these were also narrowed and thinned for scale, just the wire to add for the rails next, the posts are have been dulled down with "blacken-it" if you just dip them in quickly they will tarnish instead of blacken, I started this build with the idea that I wont be having any shiny brass fittings so now have to continue this  The chap looking busy is not glued down, he's just there for effect  sorry for the double pics, didn't realise the 1st one is up twice  - cant get rid of either. stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Really nice work Steve, I love the planking on the decks Its a shame that all kits seem to be supplied with over sized blocks. The smallest I could find were 2.5mm and they were slightly over scale for my 1/100 build. But yours still look great. Regards Alan England expects that every man will do his duty.

Regards Alan Thanks Alan, I thought you could get 2mm blocks but just checked now and you are right, they are in fact 2.4mm which i think on this scale would have looked better as long as I could see the things to tie knots round them Steve
