sparks wrote:Fantastic job on the beak area Steve, well done m8. Just one observation I notice that you have only fitted 2 eyebolts to the front of the knights head posts, I assume you are following the D'Ag instructions, but from studying the actual ship rigging, there should be three on each post (check post #98 on my build log for details) Perhaps D'Ag are doing something a different way or omitting something. Just wouldn't like you to get too far in and find you need to fit more when it will be harder to get to. Regards Alan Hi Alan, thanks for the comments - as for the eyebolts, just had to double check and there are 2 per side in the mag and the official build here - http://forum.model-space.co.uk/....aspx?g=posts&t=3242Got me wondering now though what the 3rd one is for and why is it not required on the de ag version, might have to read through the official build and see what ends up going there. Thanks for pointing it out though as it could have been a saver if Id got it wrong Steve

As I said in my post, perhaps De Ag are doing something different or not fitting all rigging. Regards Alan England expects that every man will do his duty.

Thanks for the info Alan, the official build and mine for that matter is to be without sails so maybe thats why? A bit more progress - painted the beakhead grating black, looks better i think There are a few more changes, the 5 deck gratings are now all fitted, various eyelets glued in and all chainwales are on at last! Chainwales were pretty much standard apart from the fact that I pinned them in place for extra strength and painted the deadeyes black as per the real Vic. One important thing to do also which is also mentioned in the mag is to drill out all holes in the blocks, this is best done now to save much hassle later. The pics below show the changes in no particular order. Scratch built binnacle is up next stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Wow! your Victory is looking fantastic! I was able to see her in 1992, and was blown away. Prior to that, the only masted warship I had been on was the Constellation, in Baltimore. The Constellation was a sad sight then, with the hull being held together with 12" wide bands on nylon webbing run around the hull, and through the gunports. It was to keep her bottom on. There were holes clean through the breakwater from rot. But, she was rigged. When I saw the Victory, she was demasted completely. I took the tour, clonked my head more than once on the deck beams. I was able to sneak a picture of the spot where Admiral Nelson passed away. (although I understand they have since determined he passed in a different spot?) Someplace, I have a pic of me standing by the stern galleries, looking very small. It is just mind boggling how large she is, and it is particularly mind blowing because she is built of wood, by HAND! I am a lifelong woodworker, build and restore small boats, and the time required... Anyway, GREAT looking build! Tired, Old, and Cranky!

Thanks for all the comments since my last post I have just made a binnacle from scratch to replace the not so good kit one. I used clear acetate folded all sides to the size and shape of the binnacle, the sides, front and roof are made from tin sheet and the glass dividers are very thin wood strips, prob .75mm wide. The inside has some detail to represent the compasses, dont ask me what they are cos I really dont know - just found some odd bits in my wifes crafting stuff - since found out they are brass split pins for holding paper together. After the pics were taken I noticed the thing on the binnacle roof was a bit wonky, no where near that bad in reality but the pics showed it up so this has since been fixed. Decided on black in the end also as I prefer the look of the present day one. Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Hi Stevie, WTG matey. I`m glad you decided to paint the beak grating black. I`ll be honest, I thought it might be to much black, but it is a definite plus now it`s been done in black. In addition to the above, your binnacle also looks the business Any chance of a "how to" Keep it coming, loving your progress.
