The Tamiya 1/32 Vought F4U-1 Corsair "Birdcage" looks to be one of Tamiya's best ever kit releases!

The initial export run will have a limited edition clear engine cowl!

This looks fantastic, love this plane, definately in my ww2 top 5 fighters, certainly had the japanese worried anyway.
This model is great also as if, like me you are short on space you can fold the wings up and put it on a shelfBigGrin

I've just added this one to my stash. Will wait to see what aftermarket sets appear before starting the build although at first inspection it doesn't appear to need much.

I was reading the build review for this in Tamiya Magazine's September edition the other night and the cockpit is so well engineered (several modules) and accurately moulded that they say it doesn't really need any glue to hold it together!! Tamiya has long been known as one of the best manufacturers for ease of assembly and attention to detail, but this kit has gone to a whole new level from what I've read - Tamiya at it's best!!

Nice find Spence thanks for that. CoolThumpUp

Interesting to note that the main upgrades centre around the wheels/tyres, as that is the only area of the kit that needs an upgrade, with Tamiya opting for the rather naff 'vinyl' tyres which can be very difficult to clean up the mould lines satisfactorily! The rest of the kit is beyond the need of any upgrades, save maybe a few bits of wire from some of the cockpit electrical boxes, it is so detailed!! I think the kit already comes with a lot of stencils for the cockpit and the ignition parts could easily be scratch built rather than pay for them methinks?

I think the aftermarket companies will struggle to find anything worth upgrading on this beauty!! Drool Love LOL

Eduard have 5 sets coming out in October for this kit but how many, if any, are worth the extra spend we will have to wait and see. Once available i will check out the instruction sheets on Eduards web site and compare to the kit parts to see if any are likely to give a noticeable improvement.

Your Tamiya 1/32 Corsair in need of a pilot?

Master details of the USA has a new pilot to add to their other wonderful figures in 1/32nd scale.
They are amongst the best in the scale and now for the people who bought the Tamiya corsair – or the 1/32 Hellcat, Avenger, Dauntless or any other Navy fighter of WWII…
