hi peeps.

my first post on here but have been viewing this site for some time. mainly looking at ideas for my mp4/23 build so thank you to all those who have posted there pieces.
recently got into the mp4/23 build by accident and hooked with 2 full sets bought and a half set kicking around soon to sell.
i have no model history sadley although i collect a well known brand of 1/18 f1 cars and my work down time is converting the old mclarens to tobacco livery.

i thought i'd post some of my pictures for viewing in the hope it may inspire others with ideas but most are on here already to be honest.

Bdizzle84 - thank you and yes I’m going all carbon tastic with this, i will be plastering carbon over the floor as well. It’s interesting as the more images you look for over the net the real builds differ in so many ways in regards to carbon etc, I’m just kind of doing what i want to on it and hope that it’s not too much.

Stupot - thank you again. One thing i can say is that it is very time consuming adding all the carbon to the point i got a little fed up, but then i got to the point where i started to glue and screw some bits. I went up to my wife with my first glued part and told her so - well you can imagine the look i got as if to say what the hell have you been doing all this time.

you can see what i done with the rear upper suspension arms in the link where i marked and cut them out, it’s pretty much the same but cut out enough to cover as much as you think you can get away with, if you haven't used decals before then it’s best to trial some first I’d say, for example the front break units - first picture below - are pretty much done with one piece all over the top which takes a long time as you have to keep applying a decal softener called microsol and push the decal into the shape without breaking it as the decal softens and stretches the more you apply the microsol over time, as it starts to dry i then cut or slit the holes which makes it easier to form and stretch and i also use my fingers to push it where i need it to go. I reckon that part alone takes 20 minutes to get the first decal applied. I think i added a strip to the side and i piece in the cove at the back. It’s surprising when you take close ups how different they look when you’re doing it, maybe i need glasses!!

You may have guessed but i have lacquered all the parts in the link but i will be leaving some un-lacquered like the air intake pictured.







I was going to carbon the whole air intake but decided to decal just the contour, trimmed it with a scalpel before it fully dried, came out ok i thought.

some decals in link below. they are F'artefice ones but they have other brands, just use there filters. I used size 3L on all parts but size M on the air intake. I prefer F'artefice or Musium collection for decals as in my experience they have worked the best. I did try some scale motorsport carbon decals on this build but I didn't find them very good and removed them, not a touch on F'artefice ones IMO.

Just stumbled to this thread and WOW that is some serious carbon going on.

I can imagine how long this would have taken, really does look fantastic and makes the model look AMAZING!
