Looks great! That's a lot of carbon! I wish I'd have done something like this with mine. Building: RB7 Nitro / Senna MP4/4 Finished: McLaren MP4/23 Brad.

Hi Casino, You've done a really nice job there. When i was building my MP4/23 i saw others using carbon fibre & now i wish i had used it to.How exactly does it work & how do you cut it to fit awkward pieces? Also, do you heat it like shrink wrap to make it hug each piece? Thanks.Stu

Tomick - thank you. Bdizzle84 - thank you and yes I’m going all carbon tastic with this, i will be plastering carbon over the floor as well. It’s interesting as the more images you look for over the net the real builds differ in so many ways in regards to carbon etc, I’m just kind of doing what i want to on it and hope that it’s not too much. Stupot - thank you again. One thing i can say is that it is very time consuming adding all the carbon to the point i got a little fed up, but then i got to the point where i started to glue and screw some bits. I went up to my wife with my first glued part and told her so - well you can imagine the look i got as if to say what the hell have you been doing all this time. you can see what i done with the rear upper suspension arms in the link where i marked and cut them out, it’s pretty much the same but cut out enough to cover as much as you think you can get away with, if you haven't used decals before then it’s best to trial some first I’d say, for example the front break units - first picture below - are pretty much done with one piece all over the top which takes a long time as you have to keep applying a decal softener called microsol and push the decal into the shape without breaking it as the decal softens and stretches the more you apply the microsol over time, as it starts to dry i then cut or slit the holes which makes it easier to form and stretch and i also use my fingers to push it where i need it to go. I reckon that part alone takes 20 minutes to get the first decal applied. I think i added a strip to the side and i piece in the cove at the back. It’s surprising when you take close ups how different they look when you’re doing it, maybe i need glasses!! You may have guessed but i have lacquered all the parts in the link but i will be leaving some un-lacquered like the air intake pictured. I was going to carbon the whole air intake but decided to decal just the contour, trimmed it with a scalpel before it fully dried, came out ok i thought.

Thanks Casino, Alot of good advice there. At first i thought the carbon fibre was on a sticky sheet that you cut out & stuck on, i had no idea it was a decal.I'm about to start building a 1:24 scale F1 car so will try the decals on it.Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.Stu

a little carbon under the winglets
now an idea i got from Kev's build so thank you to kev for this idea. i use this mesh as a filter at my place of work so i thought i'd give it a go. as you can see by the first photo i cut the mesh with a straight edge.
but when in place the result ended up with a big gap between the mesh nd bodywork, sorry for the bad photo.
so i done another set placing the rads in place and kept trimming until i was happy with the fit.
not perfect but that will do i think.

A few more images of the work i have done since the last post.my original Rads would not fit for some reason so i ordered some more, i had to shave parts of these with a knife to get them to fit correctly so that the top of the side pod sat down flush and did not touch the top of the radiator corner.

Hi Spencer
my wife wouldn't let me carbon the kitchen cupboards for some reason, can't think why.
the model is close to finishing, putting the decals on the nose tonight but just doing a little at a time to stop the nightmares.

Just stumbled to this thread and WOW that is some serious carbon going on. I can imagine how long this would have taken, really does look fantastic and makes the model look AMAZING!

I think I finally managed to finish the car so I’ve added photos below of the finished product. The only thing I haven't done is screw the rear engine cover wing on so I can take it off easily and I haven't put the front wheel outside air intakes on (yet)
The case I bought from eBay for about £55 I think it was and covered the base with 4d carbon wrap again from eBay which I’m not that keen on to be honest, I wonder if the 3d version would look better, the 4d makes your eyes go funny like looking at a holographic picture. I drilled and tapped 2 3mm holes in the base of the model and screwed some long M3 cap heads through the bottom of the case - that were counter bored to stop them protruding out - so it holds the car nicely in place and doesn't move about, I also packed between the base and the bottom of the car with some small washers so not to pull the car down onto its suspension, this worked better than expected with M3 bolts as i had some M4's standing by to take over the role.
A 1/18 and 1/43 scale next to it just to show the size comparison as if you didn't know already.
I wonder why they never added the nose cone wings on this deagostini version, would add a nice touch with these on I think.
Anyways I hope those viewing likes the model and thank you for those on here for their own version in which I borrowed some ideas.
