Hi Guys, Well, since it appears everyone is involved in posting their build and that there is a wide interest in seeing everyone's work and offering helpful advice, I thought I might as well join in. I used to build a lot of models when I was young. I have always had a wish to build a wooden ship. Here is the opportunity that has presented itself. My first ever build of a wooden ship. By the looks of the comments on the forum, it appears to be quite a challenging build. I look forward to such a challenge. This is the best forum I have encountered. It is extremely helpful and everyone is about providing the best of assistance to get the best out of everyone. Here's a photo of the cannons from the first two issues.  Michael

Hi Michael, Welcome to the forum. As George said, you have come to the right place. The amount of expertise in this forum is unbelievable. So far every question has been answered. Hi Michael. Being Brisbane based you might want to see 2 models, if they are still there. The first is HMS Endeavour at Brett's Wharf new farm inside the restaurant, and at the spa place corner Beaudesert Rd and Kessels Rd which has the HMS Victory. Both are spectacular.

Hi. I got Brett's Wharf mixed up with Brekkie Creek. Both good restaurants but it is The seafood restaurant at breakfast creek that had HMS Endeavour. Hope it is still there as it is a very good model.

Thanks Gandale. It answers my querie. Here's the anchor in Issue 3 To tie the thread around, I use a fishing rod binding technique as I used to build fishing rods. It means that you don't have to worry about the thread not being secure in position.  Michael

Thanks guys for your input and comments so far. It is good to know that I'm on the right track.
I spent yesterday making the jig for the keel. It is slowly coming together. I've just got to slowly put the ribs in now and I'll put that picture up when it is done.
Those little cannon blocks are intricate for sure. I guess being a doctor, I have access to fine point blunt needles which are 1mm diameter which helps create them.
What wood stains do people suggest if you're moving towards doing that for anchors, cannon blocks, the hull etc?

Great job with the cannons there Michael.
As for wood stains, it's on my list of things to consider (along with whether to have the hull painted white, natural or stained).
I am thinking Wattyl Cedar. It has a nice honey colour finish. Plus I have about 1 litre still in the shed from a previous woodwork project (treasure chest for my daughter's wedding).
My final decision will be made upon staining some test pieces against whatever other types of timber that are supplied with the ship.

Hi Micheal Wood stains can be used to great effect but have you considered the use of drawing inks to dye wood or the use of dylon fabric dyes both work equally well regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Andy,
What are drawing inks to dye wood? And what are dylon fabric dyes? And, how do you use both of them to achieve such effects?
I know stains the paints, however, have no knowledge or experience with the above.

Just waiting for the next issues to com through. I've kept the ribs flattened under tiles.
I've completed the jig and placed the keel on it.
I'll update with some photos soon.
I'm learning a lot by really looking at multiple builds and working out little modifications, nuances, tips, tricks, advice provided. Seriously awesome stuff.
