June 6th marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, when 156,000 allied troops took part in the biggest invasion in history. Codenamed "Overlord" six beaches were selected for landing along a 50 mile stretch of Normandy coastline - the beaches were named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.
During the invasion 5000 ships, 11,000 aircraft and over 50,000 vehicles took part in what was to be the start of 11 months fighting leading up to VE day in May 1945.
If you have any links to post on any aspect of D-Day then please feel free, these could be informational, video clips, events, displays, exhibitions or even programs coming up on TV.
There will be plenty going on this coming week so let's hear about it.
Also, not forgetting that this is a modelling forum how about some links to any new kits or builds.
More importantly this coming week is about remembering those that took part in the invasion, the ones that lost their lives on the beaches, the ones that survived the landing but are no longer with us, and of course to honour the ever decreasing numbers of surviving veterans who were there 70 years ago.
