More of a teaser really. So I needed some filler in between partworks deliveries, and I have got one in the form of my 1848 Stage Coach but apparently that wasn't enough. Last weekend, after doing a lot of work on my SOTS and finishing up the wheels of the stage coach I realised that while I love working on these wooden models, I need a bit of variety - something made of plastic, possibly not too challenging. I have no idea what devil tempted me to get THAT out of the stash. 653 parts, including cast metal and photo etch (or over 800 if you count the screws), 20-something sprues (including clear, ABS, and some soft rubbery type), 36 pages instruction, and probably if I look well enough, somewhere in the box I'll find a free entry ticket to a mental asylum. I had it stored for some time and I was promising myself to work on it only when I feel that I'm approaching the right skill level to even think about tackling this build. Well, I DO NOT! Either I'll get there on my way, remembering to work slowly and carefully, or I'll make a mess of it. Either way, it will be an adventure. I'll be building it with the addition of SMS and Hobby Design photo-etch kits, and metal suspension parts from Tuner Model Manufactory. Most probably also some carbon fiber decals. There is also an idea sprouting about brushing up my microcontroller programming skills and scratch building a remote-controlled lighting kit. No idea if this will be possible, I'll have to see if I can find enough space inside of the model for necessary electronics (or maybe I can hide it in a base?) Anyway, just a single photo for now - some parts of the engine, all prepped and primed with Alclad II grey primmer. Since taking this photo I managed to spray the elements twice with Alclad II aluminium and paint in some details in black - photos will follow this evening. I have also covered all the chromed parts with Mr Muscle oven cleaner (the sprayed foam type) and I have already received reports from home that all the chrome vanished. So that's one thing going well. Maybe it will not be that bad? Anyway, can someone recommend some good 1/12 scale carbon fiber decals? I think the set made by SMS is a bit overpriced, especially since I've seen people complaining about their quality. Looks like it's going to be a very well detailed model when finished!!
Don't know how you find the time to do all these builds simultaneously?!

Great save on the missing alternator bracket Michu and nice work on the painting so far - well done.
Ah, so you have an interest in horses? That explains your desire to build the Wells Fargo Stagecoach then!!

Yeah, between my fiancée and me we have three horses. It's more serious for her as she is a competing rider... I'm more of a fan and occasional rider, but still love the animals and all the fuss around them. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your comments. I'm going (and I'll have to) learn a lot, and already had a few 'firsts' here - first time stripping chrome, first time using Alclad II lackquers, first time using metallic pens for details work, and first time using Mr Surfacer on the seams. Another update. The build is progressing slowly, first because of lack of time (just received my first four shipments of Cutty Sark and spent some time on that), and secondly - because I'm learning a lot as I go, so I'm trying not to rush things. But I'm pretty happy with the results so far, so it seems to be a good strategy. I'm still working on the engine, although I'm nearing the end of that stage of the build. Started with the exhaust collectors - I wanted them glossy, so first painted them with Alclad 2 primer, then Alclad 2 black gloss base, then polished aluminium. On top of that I added some discoloring using Alclad 2 sepia burnt metal. I've gone pretty heavy on color here, not sure if this will turn out ok, but the collectors will be located deep in the engine compartment, in the shadow, so I tried to scale the color up so it will be visible later in this tight space. Time will tell if that was the right move, never done such thing before. There was also some photo etch work, like gaskets, metal tags and other details. In the meantime I painted and added some other details, including some pipes (sorry, don't know English words for them) and lovely but tricky to bend photo-etched fuel rails: After putting it all together, the engine definitely starts to take shape: And at the ed of day I painted cam covers. Very red! That's all for today, thanks for dropping by and happy modelling :) All work kindly approved by cats. I know what lack of time is like, nevertheless some really nice progress has been made in the engine, great stuff

Thanks Dave, this is a very challenging build for me, way above my skill level, so almost every step is an adventure in itself and a learning opportunity. But it's the same thing that makes it so satisfying.
