This will be my 2017 Build of the Year entry.
So, I guess this goes into "wheeled builds" category - can't get much more wheeled than this. It's a steampunk resin kit of a "Modern Steam Monobike". It's a limited-edition (just 150 produced and that's it) garage resin kit - but this doesn't mean it's of low quality. On the contrary, as the images will show in just a moment.
The approximate scale is 1/12 and it builds from 60 resin parts, lots of photo-etch, pipes, brass components and metallic microbolts. The kit is inspired by a short story "The Race" by Augusto Chiarle (or the other way around, I'm not 100% sure). It should build into a beautiful display piece, at least if I manage to do it justice - it will be my first resin kit. I'm going to put it aside for a while as I don't want to distract myself from finishing my Porsche Carrera GT - but it is going to be next in the queue.
Onto the pictures then!
When I got the parcel this morning I was very surprised by the packaging. Doesn't look like a garage kit at all - clever engineering of the box ensures everything has been delivered safe and secure.
The next surprise was the quality of the parts. They are beautifully, crisply cast and there is no pour stub in sight. Magic! I won't be showing all the parts individually now, just an overall picture and a few examples of how good it is. There will be some cleanup as some of the masters for the castings were clearly done using a 3D printing process, but nothing near what I expected.
More parts - the black elements are made of a very nice soft resin, they will probably form the rim of the monowheel:
Photo-etch fret and miscellaneous metal parts:
Third surprise - the manual. I've seen mainstream manufacturers producing worse (I'm looking at you, Revell) - and in the realm of resin manufactures, I've never seen anything that good:
And a fourth surprise - the story that inspired the kit (or the other way around) - "The Race" - was included in the box in a booklet beautifully printed on a gloss paper. A very nice touch! I'm going to read it before building the kit so I can get in the mood
So, that's it. Watch this space if you'd like to see how it comes together, although it will be probably about a month before I start the build.

That's the same guy??!! I have to do more research on the stuff I'm purchasing, I just got it because I loved the look of it and always had an affinity to Steampunk... Stefano Marchetti is his name.I hope he will produce more kits.I hope mine isnt lost in the post since he shipped it 2 weeks ago.I was going to build mine and put it next to the time machine I did last year because that has a steampunk look to it too. If you like steampunk you should also look at masterpiece models 20,000 Leagues under the sea gun kit. Carl

The time has come to crack open the box and start the build!
Just a small update today. The main circular frame of the bike is provided as one resin piece, and the two rings that will attach on the sides have to be glued out of three smaller elements each. After a clean-up, I mixed some epoxy and using the main frame as a shape guide, I glued the pieces together. A bit of cling film prevents the rings from being glued to the frame at this point, as I want to be able to paint them separately.
One of the rings is done, another one waits for the epoxy to cure on a professional drying stand :)

Yeah I've seen it but for some reason it doesn't tickle me that much. Loved his Ferrari, the Bugatti not so much. Also watching this with interest. Have seen this model for sale previously, but have never actually got round to buying it. Looks nicely detailed, well designed, and properly thought out. Nothing worse than someone thinking you can make something 'Steampunk' just by putting a load of useless cogs and stuff on the outside, but this is a brilliant piece, makes me want to buy it even though it would just be added to the grey mountain. Current Builds Eaglemoss: Ecto-1, BTTF Delorean [Installing Mods] Hachette: T800 Endoskeleton Agora Models Shelby Cobra 427 [Plate 031] BanDai 1:5000 Imperial Star Destroyer AMT 1991 U.S.S. Enterprise Bridge [Installing Mods & Lights]
Finished Builds Deagostini: R2-D2 [Never getting batteries]

Yeah, this thing is actually designed, and it's done so well you actually look at the details and technical solutions, and think: this might actually work. I just got notification my paints for this build have been delivered, so I hope to have a small update this evening :-) Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.
