BigGrin Hi all just got back from visiting Portsmouth and thought I would post some pics of some of the ships I visited Cool
First up the Victory. Still not sure about the new colour she is painted in but hayho Blink I have taken some shots of the mess table and the rigging of the guns to help people who are building the cross section plus I have taken some pics of the shot boxes Cool
The last pictures are of the new font of the Victory on her stern Cool

Next pictures will be the Warrior

BigGrin The next ship we visited was HMS Warrior a ship I have in my stash so was very excited to get on board and have a good look round Cool she is so much airier below decks than HMS Victory and the captains cabin is huge Cool

I can see why nobody took her on the guns are massive and she has 4.5in of armoured plate on her sides BigGrin

We went down to the engine room and had a look at the the stem engine that powered her and wow I would not like to keep that beast fed with coal Blushing

I have only put up some of the pictures I have of her so if anyone wants some of certain things just let me know Cool

Next up the Mary Rose

Hi Martyn..Fantasic pictures of the Victory and Warrior mate, can you tell me what the Triangular structure is in front of the Victory in your first picture, haven't seen it before and it is done out in the new Vic colour scheme...If I remember rightly, there used to be a ships gig there?? Look forward to more pics...

BigGrin Hi John the peace in the front is a mockup of the side of the ship to show how they are doing it up with the restoration. There was a fellow there who was re corking the stern with new oakum and pitch Cool

Thanks for that.

I have been planning for the last 2 years to take a coach trip there but both times family illness has stopped me.

Barnes coaches from swindon usually run a couple of day trips throughout the year so fingers crossed.

Its the mary rose of all the attractions that i really am keen to see.

Glad you had a good visit. great photos think the new lettering on Victory looks much better

I am in the minority as I prefer the new paint colours, and will do my next victory in them

sounds like you had fun

The new colour (or original) scheme seems to be bending my liking towards it too, every time I see it, I think.."Hmmm, that does look better" Sooo tempted to change the decor on my Vic...

BigGrin Still not totally convinced that it's the right colour as at that time yellow and white seamed to be the most common paint colour so I would have thought that colour paint would have been cheaper than something else. Just a thought Confused

The yellow may have been paid for by nelson as it was the Captains responsibility, guess he had a bob or two and could have splashed out on a bespoke colour? we are never going to know for sure it becomes personal choice but pinkish lemon and Grey looks pretty classy to me

BigGrin The next ship we went to see was the Mary Rose Cool
I hadn't seen this ship in a very long time the last time was just after she was lifted from the bottom of the sea Cool

The new purpose built home for her is very impressive with state of the art air conditioning to keep her safe Cool the only problem is that it is very dark and difficult to take pictures as you have to switch the flash off and she is behind glass Crying so I haven't got a lot of shots of her Bored

The new museum has lots of artefacts found on the ship, from bone needles to the large cannon. One thing I found out was there was a stone mason on the ship as all the guns needed the stone shot to be chipped down to fit as there where no standard bore for the guns Confused

Thanks for looking rgd Martyn
