In the short term you could do what I do which is cover it with a plastic sheet in between work sessions to protect from dust. I'm thinking about getting a case for my build , but the ones I've looked at seem very expensive but that depends on what you want - Ive seen perspex ones, glass ones, wooden framed ones, mirrored back ones, ones with only a clear panel at the front - the choice is extensive and the prices vary accordingly, some prices are based on height x length x beam x a multiplying factor to arrive at a price. Probably the best solution is to make one yourself or keep your eyes open in the classified ads. You could also ask around at stores that are closing down or refurbishing.
I don't think DeAg will be offering anything, you could ask them and see what they say - they are normally pretty helpful. It may be worth looking around on this forum as well because there may be someone who could build one for you.

It took about 8 weeks to come but was well worth the wait. You can ask him to build it from different types of wood to suit yourself and the guy is very freindly and helpfull too. Will even send a sample of the wood out to you.

Yes they can be expensive but I thought it was worth it in the end. I'm also going to do the same for my current builds of titanic and Yamato. I am saving up the victory parts until after I've finished these ones.

I to have been thinking on how i am going to display the models. As i have 3 on the go i thought about building my own diplay unit and worked out that the MDF to build it will only be £120 then just get some glazed doors for the front and with the space i would get sevrel models in.

This is very interesting Simon, thank you, but would you mind disclosing the cost of such an item please, as I have a couple of models from here on the go at the moment one being the Cutty Sark and the other being the McLaren.

It all depends on the size because of the materials used. The case for the Bishmarh cost me £250 and that was 135cm long. With the cutty Sark because of the beam width it might be a bit more than I paid. But there is no harm asking how much it would cost, you do not have to take him up on the offer.

One word of caution though is that the case is bigger than you may expect and you do have to put it together when it arrives with 8 screws. Also there is an option to just have the case made without the acrylic and then have some glass cut to fit which might make it a little cheaper as well.

Continuing this discussion on protecting our finished model, I've come up with a half-baked idea which could easily cut the cost of a case by 1/3 maybe even 1/2. It may seem a tad unorthodox even bordering on ridiculous but I'd like to share it with you all as some may think it suitable for development.
The finished model will be too large to stand on any of our exsisting furnishings in my home so a dedicated shelf will have to be fixed to the wall to accomodate it. I was thinking that this shelf could form the 'base' for the model, and as it will be very nearly one metre tall, that I would encase it on only 3 sides with perspex (the wall forming a backing), and running the perspex from the shelf to ceiling height thus protecting the whole build. Some sort of sealing strip could be run around the top of the perspex to prevent dust entering and there you have it.
I haven't drawn up any plans for the idea yet, they're still going round in my head, but as I said, I reckon we could easily save a third off the cost of a full display cabinet, if not more.

Looking at the custom cabinets site, and all the talk of people wanting ideas for cabinets - I'm willing to offer up my services!!!

I'm a joiner by trade and make a reasonable amount of furniture and custom items for people and am currently re-building my workshop to tailor more for this. So...

I'm willing to offer custom cabinets made to the spec people want, out of most types of wood. Anything built would be to a VERY high standard, however I worked out that on teh cainets site the cost to make a cabinet big enough to fit the victory would be at least £350 + delivery.

I however could make your cases for a much more affordable price!!!

Obviously price would be subject to the materials you want, and whether glass or perspex. However let me gauge interest from you, if I have a reasonable amount of interest then I can start looking at prices for you. I can assure you thought it will be far better than that of the company above and far better quality than using a upturned fish tank lol
