Hi Folks Have ended up being more or less housebound for the next few weeks due to a broken ankle. Not wanting to fall into a routine of daytime television viewing I decided to have a go at building a model again to help pass the time and occupy my mind. I opted for a card model of a 1/200 scale USS Missouri giving an overall length of 135cm from eBay (made a great saving than buying from a shop) Decided to call this topic USS Nameless therefore allowing me to make changes for personal taste and lack of skills The frame templates were photocopied at 104% changing the scale to 1/192 for perhaps obtaining fiddly fittings from retailers and mainly helping with my eyesight The templates were glued to 1.5mm board using Elmers Rubber Cement (no wrinkles on paper) then cut out Requiring a flat surface I used an old mirror (keep jumping back every time I go near it) and with the aide of some metal bars, magnets and set squares I made a start. Oops need to go now the Jeremy Kyle Show is about to start budgie attached the following image(s):

Great to see a card model going. I started one a few years ago but never got too far with it. I've got another in the cupboard to do. They are certainly a different challenge to wooden or plastic kits. Ive started this one and have it stored for future. I got the mast set to go with it as you don't get them. https://www.ebay.co.uk/i...66cm-long-/232704176990
plus another shipyard one in the cupboard. The only essentials you need are The old type razor blades for cutting, and glue. I used 2 types of glue, the general pva glue and Tacky glue(hobbycraft i think) its thicker and very sticky so will hold parts in place until dry. Works a dream on smaller parts. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Hi Folks thanks for popping' in @Rich below link may give you inspiration to have a go http://www.papermodelers...fuso-1-200-hal-gpm.html
Progress so far: superglued a strip on hull to keep frames square and make more rigid. This is 1.5mm card which is out of spec of the card supplied (hence USS Nameless) If I used the thickness of card supplied, the card would sag between frames unless you fit several hundred formers between the frames Started the forward frames budgie attached the following image(s):

Hi Budgie, I'm impressed with how quickly you're progressing with the skeleton of the hull, nice going. Had a look at that link you posted and I must say how much I am in awe of the skill and patience of these guys who can build with such detail. Do you know if all those parts are made from card, or are they additional extras that have to be purchased separately? Happy building David

Happy building David Hi David most of it looks like its made from the card supplied with separately purchased brass wire used to substitute the hand rails etc To make things easier you can use brass or styrene rod for the smaller gun barrels and such like. (and in my case the big barrels too and prop shafts) You can substitute the card for any material that you prefer When you cut the card you will have white edges which should be painted to blend in with the unit you are building. You can photocopy the card and stick it to scrap cardboard from cereal boxes etc to practice making the part as many times as you like and if happy with result just paint the unit. Thanks for lookin'

Thanks for the info Budgie, that was useful. I like the idea of photocopying the parts to practice the assembly - good one. Happy building David

Hi Folks carrying on toward the aft section a couple of frames caught my eye, didn't look right The distance between the frames on the stb side was different than on the port side Not by much but.... oooooh maybe should have used a jig Decided to start again following the instructions this time using styrene in place of cardboard Again paper templates stuck to styrene and cut out (score and snap) Did not want to stick parts on top of the paper so the paper strips were removed where keel and frames get glued together I opted for super glue rather than plasweld as I have tried that before and being over generous with applying the plasweld when i turned it over found the styrene had melted misshaping the false deck budgie attached the following image(s):
