BigGrin 30 years ago in 1989 Mazda won its class with a 1st,2nd and 3rd in the Le Mans 24 hour race powered by a wankel engine. In the following 3 builds I will be making the first wankel engined car and the last one plus the race winner.

We will start with the Cosmo it will be a sports car build only not the police car, second will be the RX8 the last wankel powered car Mazda made and last the the race winning 767B. The 767B has a few aftermarket parts the other two will be straight out of the box builds.

We start with the Cosmo build and what you get in the box.Cool

BigGrin The build starts with the lower floor pan and front and rear suspendion units. All the parts were assembled after being sprayed semi-gloss black, the muffler is Gunze steel and silver was used on the front discs.

The body shell had all the casting burrs removed and has now had two light coats of undercoat.Cool

BigGrin The undercoat was allowed to cure for a couple of days then any blemishes fixed. Zero paints Mazda white was next applied in several light coats.

The chrome parts have been stripped ready for a re-chrome with Molatow.Cool

BigGrin The seats wheel rims and the car cockpit have been sprayed semi gloss black then the decals added to the seat centres. the wheels were added to the rims and push fitted onto the poly caps in the hubs. The kit includes pre-cut carpet pieces for the floor these were added then the seats, handbrake and gearstick were glued on position.

The instrument panel was next with more decals and highlights as per the instructions. The stripped chrome parts have been sprayed with Molatow Liquid Chrome, these parts must now be left for several days to cure properly.

The body had a decal added to the bonnet and was then given a couple of mist coats with diamond two pack after 10 minutes the first of the two wet coats went on followed by the last coat 10 minutes after that.Cool

Watching your build coming along nicely Andy. Wish I had the patience and a steady hand to do this type of kit. Building the VW Samba and find the larger kits easier to handle. Keep up the good work. Andy.

BigGrin Thanks for looking in and your comments both. The 767b scared the old guard at Le Mans so much they banned the car but Mazda went away and two years later won the race outright with the 787B.Cool

BigGrin Masked up the car to spray Molatow chrome on the window/headlight surrounds not 100% happy with it but its not bad on a 1/24th scale car.Cool

Can't see a lot wrong with that Andy. Your Molatow chrome work looks very good to me and certainly sets of the Mazda white very nicely.

Making nice progress with this, well done.Cool ThumpUp
