Off we go on this one. OK, the big McLaren isn't finished yet but it's mainly now down to the bodywork etc which is being attended to. I've got two of these big Lotii to build - one for Fittipaldi and one for Peterson. I contemplated building the two together but there are SO many parts and the boxes are so big, I decided it would probably end up in chaos, not knowing which box I should be working from at any given time. Anyway - Fittipaldi's car first... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Hello Carl. This kit must be REALLY old, as the instructions etc are all labelled and badged as Revell. Fortunately. the original decals look ok, but there's an additional - and MUCH better Cartograf set in the box too. I've actually got FOUR of these to build - two in JPS livery and 2 in Gold leaf. Should keep me busy for a while...

Well, I've made a start...! Ok, it's only the seat now trimmed in leather while I was waiting for paint to dry on the McLaren... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Another bit... I've foiled the cockpit tub and now the seat is fixed in place. The foil was a tad fiddly as the tub has lots of awkward angles but got there in the end. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Righty-ho. McLaren sorted so now it's all go on the two Lotus 72 builds. I'm going to get a bit ahead on this one before starting on the second car as any errors or hiccups I find along the way, I can hopefully avoid or rectify on the other model more easily. I've added wiring to the back of the dash - the kit has none. Astoundingly, I also found that the kit provides NO decals for the dash gauges. Once again, I printed my own along with the chassis plate that goes on the dash. In case anyone is wondering, the centre gauge is supposed to be mounted askew. I've found that most race cars do this as it appears to make the needle reading easier to understand at a glance. Apparently, at optimum power the needle will be around vertical. Anyway, on we go. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Only a small bit today. Side body tub panels assembled, primed yesterday and now painted black. Need to leave them to harden before fitting them to the cockpit. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Thanks chaps. The apparent speed of builds is a fortunate side effect of being retired, and building for anywhere up to 8-10 hours a day... (and an incredibly supportive wife)

Many thanks you guys.
The ally interior on the tub is made using Bare Metal Foil. Quite easy to apply if you take your time.
Roy.
