Here’s the next project…. The MFH 1/12 Lotus 49. I’m going to build the 1968 Jim Clark South African GP version. It was Clark’s 4th win at Kyalami but sadly his last F1 victory.
I’ve unpacked the kit, identified ( always tricky with these kits ) and bagged up the parts roughly by assembly. Next will be fitting and cleaning before painting and building.

As with a lot of larger kits, there are a great deal of moving parts etc that will never be seen.
But the fun is in the building and the satisfaction gained from knowing that it is properly constructed but above all there is an "I built that" warm feeling achieved.
Well done RM1, off to a great start and look forward to watching the build diary progress.

A little more progress made with the cleaning and trial fitting. The engine is quite a masterpiece of moving parts.

I've now been through all the parts and done a lot of the drilling and tapping where necessary. All cleaned in the magnetic tumbler and ready for painting and assembly. RM1 attached the following image(s):

Started on the DFV assembly. Very tricky to get all the moving parts assembled around the Crank. Once the block is on the pistons move up and down . I hope I can get the gearing up to the cam shafts to work as well.

The block is now assembled and I'm working on the left and right heads. There's valve springs, cam followers, cam shafts to be fitted.

What a beautiful build this is.
With all that detail on the motor, it takes me back to my days as a mechanic working on engine rebuilds.
Keep it going and I'm watching with interest.

Wow...can't believe I've been away from this hobby for so long. Many changes in my life but now i hope to get back into this build.
Some work on the tub. I decided to get these little 1mm head rivets printed by a friend and the process to drill and fit has started.
