Thought I would post my other build I am doing, which will run alongside SotS. This build was my first wooden ship attempt, and I am thankful it introduced me into the hobby. With hindsight, it was not an ideal; starter kit due to the complexities of the shapes involved, the quality of the parts hit and miss (probably reflecting what Occre kits are like maybe), and problematic instructions.

It has turned out better than I thought it would, and this has given me the confidence to tackle SotS, I have replaced certain parts in the kit, scratch built various parts like the rear transom and window spacings, as the kit ones were rubbish, and the capstan and windlass pawls etc.

I have also not followed the instructions and had a go at curving the outer sheathing planks at the rear upwards, along with the main wale, which I think looks far more realistic than following the instructions.

I am just in the throes of rigging up the wheel and tiller assembly. I can then attach the tiller in the correct position, fix the tiller bridge and the complete the rear rails.

My apprehension lies with the masts and rigging, particularly as the instructions are vague! The main mast is just a piece of spare dowel that was lying around.

Sorry for the picture links. I am not sure yet how to resize in iPhoto, but as soon as I have worked it out I will sort it out.

Not much more done since last time. Flue made and added under the tiller, which the partwork doesn't include. Mocked up the ship's wheel. Wooden wheel purchased to be more in scale than the one supplied. Awaiting a new barrel, then can all be squared up and fitted together properly

Thanks Alan. BigGrin

It is a pity there aren't more build diaries for the Endeavour on here, as being my first build, I will be struggling come mast and rigging time. The one active build I can mainly see is Karl's.

Hi Gus, My build is active although I am working through some ink finishes and enhancements, many of the parts are not to scale and many ply parts I am changing to real wood. The rigging is not authentic I am getting some more plans for thisBigGrin Regards Mike

Hi Gus! Cool

For your first build that is one nice looking ship you have made, great paint job and it shows you have the skills. The masts, yards, rigging just takes time follow the magazines and ask if you get stuck.

I second that, what a beautiful paint job. If I might ask, what paint did you use for the white?

Hi Glenn

Thanks for the kind words. I used Admiralty paints "Matt White" and it took five coats to get a finish that looked half decent enough. I painted it white only because I was not happy with the finish around the bow area, but now it is done, I actually quite like it. BigGrin

A bit more progress. Rigged the tiller tackle and installed the tiller bridge. Next job is to install the rails at the rear.
