Spent last hour drooling over detailed images, it's a wonderful wealth of reference material - and not very expensive too. Very much recommended before you get to detailing stage! :) Hi Michu, Have seen a very similar item for the Spitfire. Thanks for the information, but as I have so much to do and limited time I`m going to build this as it comes. There`s more than enough detail to keep me busy for now, but thanks again for the info, others may find it useful if only for an insight to this iconic plane. It sure is big, it`s also fragile work at times and very testing. The good thing though is that the end results far outweigh any issues you come across. It`s really a delight to build. Hi All, This is update time. Now, I did say that a lot of stringers needed to be added and that the next update may be a bit boring. So you have been warned. Good news is that I`ve added the wing tip to the left outer wing section and made the bunk bed, plus a start on the oxygen cylinders. Then again I`ve added stringers to the main cabin section, so could be a bit dull this update. Anyway, here we go: First off some detail building. A bunk bed with oxygen cylinders underneath. (Not completed at this time). The bunk takes several parts to complete and here they are: The base.Pic 1 Lower sides added. Pic 2 Back rest and head pad. Pic 3 Instructions now say that the back rest has to be set at 120 degrees to the base unit. Due to the size of the bunk I came up with this solution. First tape a protractor at 120 degrees.Pic 4 Then set the backrest and base unit against the protractor.Pic 5 To be fitted underneath the bunk are a rack of oxygen cylinders. They have to be painted black with gauges painted white faced dial plus marks and needle indicator shown. The detail is fine, except when fitted underneath the bunk you won`t see the gauges only the black cylinders. This is the scale of what I`m dealing with.Pic 6 Painting the cylinders. Used two bits of balsa to clamp the gauge ends of the tanks and painted the main cylinder sections.Pic 7 More on the cylinders at a later date, but have painted the bunk.Pic 8 Now a boring bit, stringers fitted to left outer wing section.Pic 9 Just as a matter of interest to anyone taking this build on and not for the benefit of rivet counters, when the wing tip is fitted (shown next) there are over 800 glueing points on this section alone. The fitting of the wing tip gives the choice of ways to fit the parts. The official way, is to fit the lower wing tip by fixing it as a butt joint to the main wing section. This involves getting the tip straight to the wing section, whilst also maintaining the curve of the wing. You then fix a further rib to keep the wing shape into the tip. My option was to fit the next rib, giving more points of contact to make sure the tip was set in the correct position. If you build this kit, then you can follow the instructions, but here is my method: The instructions say that when you have fitted the lower wing tip that the supporting rib is to be fitted 1.5mm from the end rib of the main wing section. My method is fit the supporting rib first. To that end I used two scraps of fret as spacers (1.45mm thick) This gave me a much better fixing for the wing tip as shown by the arrows.Pic 10 With the rib fitted and the wing tip in place, several ribs are fitted inside the wing tip, as shown below.Pic 11 The upper wing tip can now be fitted as shown below, this is glued on all the internal ribs and outer edges. The outside edges will be rounded at a later time.Pic 12 That`s it for the left outer wing section for now. Also fitted the stringers to the cockpit section as shown below.Pic 13 So, that`s all for now. A few days at work and time to decide what`s next. Will update as soon as possible. Happy Building Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi Dave, Alan and Mark, Thanks for the comments and time taken to look in. Just got in from work and thought "what should I do?". I know, I`ll fit some more stringers: NAH !! I`m all stringered out at the moment so will have a browsing session, eat and then get to bed for another early start. Hey Ho, it pays the bills. Hi All, It`s update time again. This is a small update in parts size, but did get my brain straining for a while. Due to the size/or lack of size of these parts I have included a "How to" in this update to help other builders of this kit. This update as far as I know is pretty unique. The update is for the pilot`s control panel, but not the side he would look at. It`s for the reverse side. It includes the reverse side of the clocks and dials where the cabling is attached. (Cabling will be in the next update). Ok enough waffle, lets get on with it. Firstly the main parts: Panel back plate Junction box Air Tank (Later update) Three cable types. Pic 1 Now for the smaller parts: Dial backs (Three types) 15 in total Cover plates 8 in total (I got two spare - carpet gremlin got one) It is for the 8 needed cover plates, that I will show the "HOW TO". So the parts.Pic 2 First off it`s essential that you clean out the holes in the back plate, so as to make sure the fixing pins on the reverse side of the dial backs fit. That done fix the dial backs as shown in the instructions. Note the orientation of the pips on the dial backs according to the instructions. (Vertical or Horizontal) First of fifteen fitted.Pic 3 When you have fitted all fifteen dial backs and the junction box you will have this.Pic 4 It`s at this point my brain and eyesight went into melt down. An area of approx. 8mm x 4mm that you have to fit 8 discs approx. 1.5mm diameter.(Evenly spaced) Very rough diagram.Pic 5 Now this is where I went into "There`s got to be an easier way to do this". The instructions say pick up each disc with tweezers, apply glue to the back and put in place. Problem that I foresee, was that you could not manoeuvre the discs after being put in place. (Using Loctite 496 metal superglue) So, how do you fit all eight discs at the same time and get them "close" to being evenly spaced? Here`s my solution: First clean up the area where the discs will be fitted.Pic 6 Next cut a piece of low tack masking tape,(I use "Frogtape")to size.Pic 7 If you then carefully remove the tape and stick the eight discs to the sticky side of the tape, you have this.Pic 8 This option gives you as much time as you need to get the discs in the best possible place. If you go for the direct glueing option you may only get six in place and have no space for parts seven and eight if you use up too much space for the first six. So, when you have the discs in place on the tape and you`re happy to fit them, apply adhesive to the upper faces of the discs. Carefully pick up the tape with a craft knife and turn it over into place on the cleaned area.Pic 9 Loctite 496 will still give you a short time to make the final adjustment before the position is finalised. When happy with the final position leave the tape on and allow the glue to fully set.Pic 10 There`s no rush to remove the tape, it is very low tack. (Ideal) Having had enough time to fully set, you can remove the tape.Pic 11 Well that`s all for now, So, happy building. Hi All, Update time, but firstly thanks to Alan and Dave for the comments. I`m getting to a point where I need to play catch-up. I`ve been getting on with a lot of the main building sections and now need to get back to some painting and detailing. First off, the build of a pivoting leading edge for the inner wing section. This is only the basics of the construction, with the detail to follow at a later date. The parts.Pic 1 This part of the build will only include the wooden parts, as the stringers took up all the time I had to this point of the build. So here goes. Remove the main base frame from the fret and fit the ribs at 90 degrees one at a time. NB: The ribs are not symmetrical, so make sure you keep them the same way round. First.Pic 2 I used a piece of scrap fret to help set up a square, so as to make sure the future ribs ended up at 90 degrees.Pic 3 I followed on with the same process to this point.Pic 4 The final rib was set using the modelling table, result.Pic 5 With all the ribs in place, it`s time for more "STRINGERS" seven in total.Pic 6 With the stringers in place, invert the part and carefully remove the five centre lower spars.Pic 7 This is where you are at this point.Pic 8 Final part for this section is to remove the outer spars from the base. Use either a very sharp knife or a razor saw. When done sand all the rough edges.Pic 9 Final result.Pic 10 So now time to do some of the infill parts of this project. Flat black painting of the nose and cabin section, along with the spinners and props (x4).Props yellow tipped.Pic 11-12 Props and spinners will be satin varnish finished. Other items painted include: Centre wing section Navigators/Engineers and Pilots seats (first coat) Inner rear wing sections(including bunk bed)Pics 13-16 Well that`s all for now. Hi All, Firstly, thanks to people who have given their time to comment above. Most Appreciated. So onto the next update: Gone back to issue 8: Building up the pilot`s control levers. On a scale of 1:32 the parts used come in on, shall we say the "small side". So, time for some more thoughts on how to put it all together. More on that later. First picture shows the parts:(17 in all)Pic 1 The lever panels are made up in three sections. The two smaller ones fit outside the larger (inner) one, just a mirror image of each other. The smaller ones consist of the base plate and two control levers. The larger centre one has a base plate, eight levers and two control heads. Outer lever parts.Pic 2 Ok, construction: The instructions say, pick up lever in pliers, apply glue and put in place.(Great way to feed the carpet gremlins). My solution: Bring out the "low tack" Frogtape. Stick lever to the tape. Put a small spot of glue in the appropriate slot, using cocktail stick. Guide lever into the slot and allow glue to set. Then remove tape. Lever pressed onto tape.Pic 3 With the two levers in place you get this result.Pic 4 Construct the other outer panel in the same way. The main centre lever section is constructed in exactly the same way, only orientation of the base plate and hence the two longer levers is important. Here is the four lower levers in place, with the last one still setting. Hence the tape is still attached.Pic 5 Now, the upper four levers are fitted with the two shorter ones in the centre slots and the larger levers in the outer slots. All eight levers in place and the smaller panels as they will be fitted into the cockpit.Pic 6 The last part of this assembley is to fit the two control heads to the centre levers.Pic 7 All that`s left to do with this part of the build, is to paint the lever slots and the ends of the levers black. The levers will then be ready to fit into the cockpit, according to the instructions. Unfortunately they don`t give any precise measurements to do that. So in those immortal words of Baldrick (from Black Adder), "I HAVE A CUNNING PLAN" That`s for a later date, but here`s a final shot of the finished control levers.Pic 8 That`s all for today. Happy Building Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"
