I then removed the conning tower deck and proceeded to fit two part-works supplied pieces that make up the interior profile. The attached photo shows where the port side section will be fitted. The attached photo shows the first of two supports I made that act to 'blank off' the void in the vee sections of the upper and lower decks. These supports also double up as a 'step-down' into the main conning tower deck as per U995 and provide support for the upper deck. I then spent a bit of time adding filler to any gaps and sanding all of these parts true. During this time I also glued in place the upper deck and left it overnight to cure. The next step, as seen in the attached photo was to mark out where the tapered profile that sits underneath the upper deck will locate and fit additional strengthening strips.
