tigerace wrote:Any update Derek Regards Phil Hi Phil, Hope to have an update soon. Been having trouble with a lack of grip on my left hand due to tendon problems with the thumb. Physio has helped, but may need minor surgery to improve things further. When that may happen with the present state of things I don`t know. My wife is still awaiting cataract surgery that was cancelled three days before the first lockdown in 2020, so I`m definitely not holding my breath. Thanks for looking in anyway. Hi All, Apologies for the delay in this update, but my left thumb is spending a lot of time in a splint at the moment with tendon issues. Enough whingeing So where was I ? Pic 1: shows the balsa prototype from previous post. Pic 2: shows a heavy weight table vice I bought of Ebay to help hold things I am working on. Thanks to Alan (Gandale) for the heads up on that one. Since then I have purchased some blocks of Mahogany to make the gearbox sides for the final item. I`m using Mahogany to reduce wear and tear on the walls when the mechanism spins. Pic 3: shows the side walls prepped and the red arrows show where spacers are needed to hold the walls the correct distance apart.(3.5mm) Pic 4: shows the gearbox set-up (not glued) so I could work out the size of spacers required between the walls. Pic 5: shows the whole gearbox clamped up, with the spacers in place. This is still not glued up, but will allow me to take all the necessary measurements I need to work out the height of the dio base above all the workings underneath. This measurement will be critical as the gear showing top left in the final picture will have to engage the gear on the cars back axle through a slot in the dio base. Also, I have recently purchased a job lot of Meccano (waiting delivery) that I will be using as support bracing for later parts under the dio base. (More on that at a later time). Well that`s it for now. Next update ASAP. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Thanks to Mark and Carl for your comments and for the others who looked in. Reference the gearbox, it was quite easy as the prototype was made in balsa. All I had to do was push the axles into the balsa and if wrong just move the position slightly. No drilling and filling holes and when the correct position was found take the measurements needed and transfer them to the mahogany. Next job is to make the sides that will support the dio base. The measurements for this will be decided by the height of the gearbox when placed on the electronics base. This is where the fun will start, as then I have to get everything that will be on top of the dio base lined up with all the workings underneath. Well more on that at a later date. Until then, HAPPY MODELLING and STAY SAFE. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Great to see you back on this Derek and moving it forward. Looking really good and I'm so impressed with how you're putting together the various drives and motors that will bring this all to life at the end. Well done.
Hope your thumb isn't causing you too much trouble.

Kev. Hi Kev, Always appreciate you looking in and your comments. Everything in this build comes from those dark corners of my head, go down on paper and then get modified (sometimes several times) before they get built and work. The thumb (thanks for asking) is spending more time in a splint, but the physio exercises and me gritting my teeth from time to time is keeping it useable. Just. It will be nice to see more updates on this cool build Derek and I'll look forward to seeing what you do with it once you're done with all of that 1:1 boat building?
Almost makes me wish the days would become shorter and the nights become longer sooner than they ought to, just to see more of this!
