Hi Alan, thought I would pop in and see how she is progressing Fabulous work, she is looking great Just a suggestion, you can always try supergluing some sandpaper to a slightly smaller dowel for cleaning your holes out,you don't have to use a stroking action then which can cause more breakout at the rear of the hole, just twist. Kind Regards Nigel

Nice to hear from you again and hope everything is going well for you.... Kind regards Alan

Looking good Alan, the holes turned out very well and I can imagine this was difficult to do as well. I actually went back to your index and found page 89 to see if there was anything that could have been pre - drilled but really there isnt For myself (if this is my next build) I may possibly plank the verticals onto thick card pinned to the bulkhead so the planks sandwich the card between, the planks are glued to the card but the assembly is pinned to the bulkhead and when dry, can be removed for drilling on the bench. I have used the card method on the vic for the forward bulkhead to be able to add all the detail etc but not be working on the actual model. This is just something I may do but not anything I would recommend to others unless it actually works on the SOTS Coming on really well anyway, keep it up! Steve

Steve Thanks Stevie, appreciate you looking in and for you kind comments.... Like you idea of thick card and I too looked whether there was anything that could have been pre-drilled with no luck.... .. Think you would have to watch how thick the card was so as not to change the overall thickness of the bulkheads or the gun port ornamentation may not fit correctly.... Thanks again and regards Alan

Short update to show I have now refined the process and have completed 6 of the bulkhead gun ports.... Changed the process a little, rather than use a half round needle file I did as was suggested by Nigel. Glued some sandpaper onto a piece of 10mm dowel, drilled the hole as before and finished off using the dowel in a twisting fashion and not a back and forth fashion... this resulted in far less damage on the inner wall... .. This method was a lot smoother, faster and gave much better results with very little need for modellers putty.... .. Thanks Nigel, great tip.... Happy building all... Next update, have now completed the railings on the quarterdeck.. no real problems except a little fiddly in places.... Had to carefully widen the holes for uprights as it really was a tight fit and was concerned I would snap the top frames, used a fine square file for this task... Only thing left to do now on issue 67 is to drill the two gunport holes on the forecastle bulkhead and fit the décor, then I can move onto issue 68 which is the half way point of the build... Happy building all... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):
