Am happy to help members in any way I can and will always respond to you should you have a problem or query regarding the SOTS... .. Firstly, don't be too concerned about the gap on the dummy gun supports, where the gaps exist additional supports are added on top of the first supports later in the build... What I would say is when fixing the supports ensure you fix them securely, securely enough to take the riggors of drilling holes into them later to take the dummy gun barrels.... Add additional braces behind the supports if necessary as these will not be seen when you fix the decks into position... .. In addition, I also bevelled the bottom edges of the supports to ensure a better fit... I would also say, don't be overly concerned about planking, follow the instructions, takr your time and you won't go far wrong. I covered planking of the hull quite extensively in my diary and the diary index should help you find the relevant posts... Biggest advice I can give is don't force any plank into position, let the planks lay where they want to go and use tapered planks to fill any gaps.... .. There is plenty of information on planking throughout this forum so have a look at other diaries, especially Mr T's Official Diary and of course the know how section of the forum. Hi Alan. You're really coming along well with those racks and Bitts! A lovely job! I checked back on that little mock up of the pin rail I did just to see if there was any weakness apparent. The wood I used was left over from the Grimsby and was a dark wood, possibly Sapele, the rail itself was 5.5mm in width, 2mm thick and 31mm long including a 1/2mm set into the posts. The holes I drilled were 2mm which were actually a little oversized, (just happened to be the easiest drill bit to find!  ) There are six holes across the rail and I tried it to see if it would take any pressure ... if your wood dimensions are anywhere near those above I don't think you'll need to worry! I think either my finger bones or the joint between the rail and the posts would go before the rail did! I was surprised myself just how strong it was (and with cheapie Poundshop PVA as well!) The only re-inforcing I would recommend would be to brass pin the posts into the deck planks where you can, that would be the weakest part I think. Keep them coming, better every time! Week 90 now complete... week 89 was simply the supply of 2 cannon kits, cannons I intend to make up later in 2 batches, those for the main deck and then those for the other decks... .. Issue 90 was the fitting of 2 lanterns on each side of the side galleries. 9 Cleats were also fitted but here I found what I believe to be a measurement error.. Instructions say to fit a cleat either side of the quarterdeck parapets 4mm from the front rail... Looking at the mag photos, this shows the cleats in behind the first upright post on the parapet and well away from the front edge of the front rail which is 4mm wide, this just does not work. Positioning of the cleat works out to be 12mm from the front rail and not 4m.. or at least this is where I have placed them .. Finally in this issue, fitted 20 eyebolts in total on the decks, these were first blackened and set in place with superglue gel.... .. Looks like issue 91 will just be the fitting of more bling... Beautiful Alan! The more bling she gets, the more majestic she looks! It always pays to double check between the written instructions and the build photos, typing errors are far easier to make than getting the photo wrong in the magazine! Even the DelPrado instructions are a little 'out' now and again! If in doubt, go with the photo! The SOTS book that we both have has become my weekly 'read' in Tescos now, VERY detailed descriptions and a darned good read too! (when I'm not stocking up on wooden stirrers for Messines!  ) Really coming on well and looking forward to the next additions!
