Hhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmm!!!!!! Yeah, that's close enough! It was for the static testing of rocket engines, primarily for the British Black Arrow orbital launch rocket. The Black Arrow was developed on a shoestring by the teams who had worked on various other projects including the Blue Streak Missile. It was successfully launched from the Woomarra (Wrong spelling, sorry Aussis) in Australia and if it had continued would have put Britain on a par with the Yanks and Ruskies for satellite launch capabilities. Unfortunately, as always, even a shoestring was too expensive for the smug expenses grabbing idiots at Westminster who cancelled the program in the early 1970's. To this day, Britain remains the only country in the world to have developed a working space launcher and then to have given it up! Interestingly, when the Black Arrow was in development, NASA presented an offer the the UK Government to launch British payloads into orbit for free. Once they heard the program had been cancelled and Britain would be relying on American launchers for their satellite research they withdrew the offer the same day!!!
