BUILD UPDATE
Hi everyone and thanks for the good comments. This little update was inspired by Graeme (aka Pemberg). I was very impressed by his work on the bulkhead door to the torpedo room, and looking at my own resin part, it did leave something to be desired, so I decided to have a go at some sort of modification of my own. I have to say right away that my attempt is nowhere near as impressive as the work Graeme did on his and I also used different materials. I used a piece of card cut from a cereal box for the door inlay and offcuts of 1 x 1mm square wood cut down for the details. Picture 1 shows the resin part as bought Picture 2 shows the illustration from the cover of one of the magazine covers to show how it should look. Picture 3 shows the modification before priming, and Picture 4 shows the work after the primer coat. As I said the mod doesn't come close to Graeme's superb workmanship and I may well strip it down and retry it using something other than card as the painting seems to have reacted to it. That's it for now. Thanks for looking in and, as usual, comments welcome. Happy building Daviddaffy09 attached the following image(s):

BUILD UPDATE FIRST ATTEMPT AT TORPEDO
Hi again, Thought you may like to see my 1st attempt at the resin torpedo kit. I'm going to re-build it as I'm not happy with the pitting on main body of the torpedo, I guess it's something to do with the way the resin parts are made and I've never used this medium before. It was quite a simple kit with just a 1-part body and a small set of P.E. for the propeller and hydrofoils. It was painted with Revell #95 bronze and Humbrol matt grey. Just a few pictures of the finished item. Thanks for looking in, more next week. Happy building Daviddaffy09 attached the following image(s):

Hi David Looks great and nice work. With resin parts there is the chance that air bubbles can be trapped in the resin during the casting process this can show up as the pitting or little holes, also it may be the sign of someone using a worn mould to extract as many parts as possible. Mr Hobby do a dissolved putty and a resin surfacer that may help in getting a better finish, links below, http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...amp;hash=item2a1ca21d92
And http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...amp;hash=item27d3ed4987
Hope this helps Regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi David, looking good. They must have changed the torpedo kit since I bought mine as there was no etch fret with mine - the fins were plastic and no props were included so I will have to scratch build some. Graeme

Thanks Andy, Alan, Martyn and Graeme. Was just keeping busy between deliveries of subscription parts. Still awaiting delivery of the last resin parts for the conversion and also for the Life-color paint set. In the German publication they're up to issue 87 now which is useful for me because those issues show the command room assembly and show colours which are used, so I'll be following through with that colour scheme in the torpedo section. David, just checked out issue 87 on the german site and the colour scheme does match that in the walk-around pics of the U-995 but when you follow the scheme into the torpedo room note that the grey colour does not come as far up the walls as in the control room - it stops at the level of the bottom of the door (as I have painted mine). Thanks Graeme, that's something I hadn't thought about and now, looking at the model, if I was to continue the grey in a straight line throughout the boat, then the grey would reach almost up to the ceiling in the torpedo room. So that's a very good point to bear in mind when I come to painting. I expect the machine room compartment will be different as well, being a completely bigger shape than the other 2 cutaways. Hi there, First of all - great build! I think it's the first time I'm commenting here, but I've been following with interest for quite some time. I thought I'll drop by here and leave a note after I came across a nice photo reference on the web. I came across this page recently: https://www.warhistoryon...ml?src=fba&type=wca - maybe you'll find something useful for your build. Your submarine is type VII C, and the one on the pictures is VII C/41. The difference was in a shape of the bow and a thicker pressure hull that granted a better speed on the surface and quicker dive. As far as I know, armament and engines didn't change. Cheers :) Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.

Hi Michu, and you are very welcome aboard, and feel free to comment any time. Thank you so much for those superb photos you found, I hadn't seen them before and they will certainly help tremendously when it comes to the painting. You are right that she is almost the same as the type VII-C that we are building. She did have very similar armament as well, with the addition of an extra pair of anti-aircraft guns on an extended gun platform on the rear of the conning tower. Perhaps you would like to send them to DaDokta and Pemberg who are also well on their way with this project and I'm sure they would appreciate them as much as I have. Thanks again. Happy building David

Good idea, I'll PM them to not spam the forums. Cheers! Just don't miss the fact there are 4 pages of the pictures there, the pagination links at the bottom are easy to overlook - I didn't notice them at first. BUILD UPDATE
Hi, and welcome back to a quick update. The resin torpedoes I bought had quite severe pitting along the length of the main bodies. Andy (arpurchase) spotted the problem and recommended a couple of products called 'Mr. Dissolved putty' and 'Mr Resin Surface Primer' by 'Mr. Hobby'. I took his advice and went ahead and ordered some, and they arrived in today's post. So I can now make good all those imperfections in the resin parts before moving on to paint them (busy with the first lot of second planking as I write, so another build update will here shortly). Thank you Andy, and thanks to all for looking in and leaving comments, especially Michu for that great site he found with some amazing pictures of a Type VII u-boat. Thanks again Michu. BUILD UPDATE #44
Welcome back to another build update of U-96. This week sees the beginning of the second layer of planking on the hull. Issue #44 came with a bundle of 1.5x5x160mm strips. Work commenced on the left-hand side of the hull (the side without the cutaways)just aft of the bow section which is being left un-planked until the work on the torpedo room conversion is completed. Over several days, I worked back from the bow covering the lower hull, upper hull (saddle tanks forward), lower hull, upper hull (saddle tanks rear), and finally the lower hull rear with the addition of planking the mid-section of the keel, using the 1.5x5x160mm strips throughout. After completing the work, a light sanding was applied just to tidy things up a bit. The following images show the work-flow throughout the week. That's it for now, thanks for looking in and comments welcome. Happy building David

Thanks Graeme and Davetwin. Sanding, yes, there's going to be plenty of it. I'm looking around for a miniature power sander if such a thing exists. I've seen small belt sanders but they're a bit on the pricey side. Probably end up buying a load of sandpaper and getting a sweat on. Going to buy some more 'Micro Mesh' as well, as I reckon they'll be lots of filler going onto the job as well. Happy building David
